Wildlife of Andorra

A landlocked European country, Andorra is located on the Iberian Peninsula. The country shares a border with France and Spain. More than 200 species of animals live there.

Native Animals

Central European boars are common animals found all over Europe.

Red foxes are the most widely spread carnivores and found almost entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.

Roe deer are found all over Europe.

Greater mouse-eared bats are a common species of bats found in Europe.

European polecats are known for their foul smells and originated in Western Europe.

Eurasian otters are the most widely distributed members of the otter subfamily. They are semi-aquatic and live near water sources along river banks and marshes.

Wood mice are rodents native to Europe and northwestern Africa.

Birds

Peregrine falcons are found all over the world.

Barn owls are nocturnal birds. They’re among the most common and widespread birds.

Wildlife of Austria

Austria is a small landlocked European country. It shares a land border with Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Its biome is dominated by mountains, forests, and the foothills of the Alps. There is also flat low country, the western fringes of the Carpathian Mountains, and large lakes. The second-longest river in Europe the Danube runs through northern Austria.

The Hohe Tauern National Park is located on the main chain of the Central Eastern Alps. The park encompasses mountains, valleys, forests, and glaciers as well as the highest peak in Austria, Grossglockner.

Animals making their homes here include red deer, chamois, Alpine ibex, griffon vultures, and golden eagles.

.The Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park is located in the easternmost state of Burgenland. It includes wetlands, meadows, and steppes.

Here you can find many migrating and nesting birds like herons, great bustards, spoonbills, storks, geese, avocets, bee-eaters, and sea eagles. There are also horses and water buffalo.

The Danube-Auen National Park is located near the capital, Vienna in the Lower Austria state. This is one of the largest remaining natural floodplains in Europe.

Visitors can see beavers, sea eagles, kingfishers, newts, and pond turtles.

The Kalkalpen National Park is located in the Northern Limestone Alps in Upper Austria.

Animals making their home here are Eurasian lynx, brown bears, bats, breeding birds, cave beetles, beavers, and butterflies.

Native Animals

Eurasian lynx are few but still making their homes in Austria mostly in the Alps.

Red foxes are the most widespread species of fox. They are also the largest.

Stoats are short-tailed weasels.

Pine martens are a species of mustelids native to Northern Europe. They make their homes in well-wooded areas.

Red squirrels are a common species of squirrel in Eurasia. They love boreal and coniferous woods.

Alpine ibex are a species of wild goats that are native to the Alps mountain range in Central Europe.

European hedgehogs are a common species of hedgehogs native to all Europe.

Beavers might not have access to a specific coastline in Austria but they do have access to plenty of lakes and rivers which keep the beavers busy building dams.

Birds

Pelegrine falcons can be found all over the world.

Mallards are wild ducks and inhabit most of the northern hemisphere.

Common ravens are also found in the northern hemisphere. 

Eurasian eagle owls are native to Eurasia. They inhabit mountainous and rocky regions.
