Amazing Animals Ivory Coast
Wildlife of West Africa

The Ivory Coast or Cote d’Ivoire is located in West Africa. The country is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the south, Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north, and Ghana to the east. The Ivory Coast has 702 species of birds, 223 species of mammals, 125 species of reptiles, and 38 types of amphibians.
Official National Animal

African leopards are a subspecies that are native to sub-Saharan Africa. These wild cats will feed on prey such as gazelles, hares, and birds.

Species such as the Western chimpanzee and the black-and-white colobus monkey are found in the forests.
Giant elands (pictured above) are also referred to as the Lord Derby elands and are the largest species of antelope in the world. These animals are herbivores and feed on branches, grasses, and foliage. They gather in small herds of 15 to 25 both males and females.

Lions are a large species of wild cats native to Africa and India. They are the most notorious animals on the continent. They are carnivores and very good hunters.

Oribis are a small species of antelopes inhabiting eastern, western, and southern Africa. They form small herds of around 4 and graze most of the time. They inhabit floodplains, savannas, and tropical grasslands.

Senegal bushbabies are a small species of primates that are native to sub-Saharan Africa. They can be found from the western coast of the continent to the Horn of Africa, as well as Kenya and Tanzania. These animals like ripe fruit especially figs, they also dine on young leaves and flowers and might eat some insects among them beetles and crickets.

Spotted hyenas are also referred to as laughing hyenas, They are a large species of mammals native to sub-Saharan Africa. Mostly they are carnivores and good hunters but are also scavengers.

Warthogs have disproportionately large heads with thick protective pads (“warts”) on the sides of their heads, two upper tusks that protrude from their snout, and sharp lower tusks. They live in various habitats in the Ivory Coast, including wooded savannas, grass steppes, and semideserts.
Birds

African fish eagles are a large species of eagles native to sub-Saharan Africa, they live near bodies of water. These powerful eagles can snatch a fish from water with their large talons.

Black crowned cranes are a species of cranes that are native to sub-Saharan Africa. They inhabit wetlands and are known for their golden crowns on top of their heads. These birds eat insects, mollusks, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.

Egyptian vultures are a small species of vultures that are found in the Iberian Peninsula, India, North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa. They are scavengers.
Aquatic Animals

African manatees are a large species of marine mammals native to the western coast of Africa. These are herbivores dining grasses but will also feed on mollusks, clams, and fish.

Nile crocodiles are a large species of crocodilians that are native to the freshwater bodies of Africa. They are among the most famous animals in Egypt and found throughout sub-Saharan Africa. These animals are very aggressive and feed on whatever they can get.

Pygmy hippopotamuses are a small species of hippos that are native to West Africa. Hippos are nocturnal and also semi-aquatic. They rely on water to keep their skin moist and body temperature cool. They are herbivores feeding on fruits, grasses, plants, and ferns.

West African slender-snouted crocodiles are a species of African crocs that are native to the western parts of the continent. They have slender long snouts that help them to catch fish.
