Why am I in the dark, Vocal?

This isn’t right is it

Why am I in the dark, Vocal?

I remember the enjoyment of writing poetry, knowing I would show no one. Then I decided to share, I put lots of poetry out there. People loved it. I gave it my all. Joining Vocal was the best day of all. Yet even though my work was and is good, I am held back by Vocal. I feel just not good enough. Maybe it’s just a passing thing, maybe. Maybe it will right itself or again be a praised thing. Vocal really should treat all the same, not put the same names up there every week to win and get all the fame. We all deserve a little praise as we write our hearts out on good and bad days. We pay the same yearly fees, so treat us all right. My poetry at least deserves that right.

About the Creator

Marie381Uk

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

Sometimes it's a timing thing. I was on here 13 months before I received my first TS. The readership seems to have declined across the board with the AI mishaps. I've noticed several regulars have been taking time away from Vocal as well. Take care.

Marie, your poems are good. Stop doubting yourself. Vocal, like all writing platforms, is a numbers game. There are so many stories/ poems produced every day that it is hard to get recognized. 😉😉

  • I don't think you're held back by Vocal. You should try putting yourself out there more. Read more people's pieces. That's how we get more reads on ours. Help this helps 🥰🥰🥰

I don't think they mean to do that Marie. My husband and I both have a paid account, but win or loose we keep writing. Come renewal time we might just keep one account, but that is economics not discontent. You have to realize all the writers they have and I wouldn't want their job. Enter the contests and have some fun, that is what I do. I love the contests. I don't pay much attention to the leaderboard, in fact the last time I made top story, I didn't even know it until I checked the wallet and found it. I don't think they are ignoring you, I think that they have a lot of writers and a lot of things to do. Busy yourself with the challenges, you placed in one - I have not, but I enjoy the contests - I think they are more fun than anything else on here, including the leaderboard.

I feel like I am in the same boat. I used to get TS and when there was a Most supportive commentors section that is where I made the most. I liked that for I was using what I learned from graduate school and teaching. Great sharing

I agree. I've seen plenty of pieces on here, and discussions in the various Vocal social media groups, where authors express frustration. Some of us gave up on the paid membership because of it. I've been writing and editing for a long time. I've seen Top Story and Contest winners on here that were clearly not as good as other entries. Some of them were frankly amateurish. We all have to decide whether we want to pony up the membership fees, or opt out and post anyway. Because so far nothing has changed.

This is such a raw and honest piece — your words echo what so many creators feel but often keep inside. Thank you for speaking up. Your work does deserve recognition, and your passion shows. Please keep writing — your voice matters.

Way to go. I am starting to feel the same way, but I will continue to share and write here.
