Vocal Media Did Not Approve My Story

I haven't had this happen before

Okay, so I may have to go back and read the rules again. That was a fast not approved. No time to even read any of it. It reminded me of my daughter putting her fingers in her ears, and making loud noises when I would start to talk about sex. It was a part of my job. And she is a registered nurse.

Scary world we are living in. At the age of 71, I have been hearing too many people talk about problems in the bedroom, and not just the over seventy crowd. Is the bedroom better than mentioning the S word. It is too bad.

My friend and a previous supervisor said, "I remember when you would give that talk to people in the halfway house, detox, at the hospital and for Human Services staff."

I can see limiting some of the material, but 'not approved' without reading what is printed? There has to be some humor in this. The world is in trouble. Pornography is okay, and women on the red carpet with nothing on, and so much more.

But to throw out some comments of problems and solutions, it is not approved instantly. Will this be enough to have me leave Vocal Media? No, I'm sure not. Vocal has helped me with my writing, by writing and publishing daily, my creative writing is better.

Vocal Media please send me some constructive feedback to fix the problem, maybe the latest rules. I have been around long enough to know what is expected, but I sure didn't expect to submit and have it be instantly not approved, without a read.

I know they are instantly approved without a read, so I should expect this?

When publishing on medium.com, I am minimally told why my story doesn't fit their publication. I understand and publish it elsewhere after sometimes making a few changes to fit another publication better.

Enough said.

My story was not approved yesterday, I was so disappointed! I've emailed to find out exactly what the issue is and they said they will read my story and get back to me. I hope everything got sorted for you!

  • I'm so sorry this happened to you. But I saw your replies to the comments below that your word count was not enough hahaha. Oh well, it happens

Sometimes, I just think there is a glitch in the breakfast machine. I have only ever had two stories not approved. One was about 20 words short of the lower limit, and the other one, who knows? I changed the title ever so slightly, and it was approved again about an hour later. It gives you a shock though and you expect the police to come knocking on your door.

That has happened a few times for me here as well. I usually go back re-read or make a few little changes of a phrase or two and then it is published. Good luck. Can't wait for your next piece.

WOW! I hope & pray that everything gets straightened out soon.

I've had one rejected, but the reason was actually in the banner of the story when I went back in to edit it. Have you checked there? I just made a couple of slight corrections and resubmitted, and they accepted it then

I agree it would be nice to know the reasons why - perhaps its an easy fix and can be resubmitted. There have been times my stories were rejected but it was always the word count which I had to click on the notice as I desperately searched for my own answers - but to have no idea - would drive me insane.

I used to get denied fairly often when there were real people reading the pieces. It was usually because of a ritual in a story probably seemed too religious, or because I mentioned God in a sentence. I never really would get a specific comment, I'd just keep changing words until the problem disappeared. Then I hit a poem I didn't want to change. It became my first piece on Medium. Now I choose which platform to publish pieces on when I start writing. Occasionally I cross publish if I can. And I also just started exploring Substack. There are some good writers on this platform, and the challenges are interesting, that's what keeps me here. The word minimum comment from sleepy drafts seems to make sense. Good luck!

  • Hope you'll find that feedback because it's merely a discussion on the birds and bees. Perhaps in the Spam folder? Sometimes these things get misdirected.

  • Kendall Defoe 11 months ago

That is odd. Hope you get that feedback!

  • If something is rejected you should be given a reason why so it can be easily rectified

  • sleepy drafts11 months ago

That is so strange and frustrating. Could it be something to do with word minimum? Any other reason wouldn't really make sense in my eyes. I hope you are able to get a response and post your original piece!
