Twisters 2024 Plot summary

"Twisters" is a standalone sequel to the 1996 film "Twister", directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The film follows a group of storm chasers as they investigate a series of powerful tornadoes in Oklahoma.

The story centers around Kate Carter, a meteorologist haunted by a past encounter with a devastating tornado. Five years after losing her storm chasing team, Kate is lured back into the field by her friend Javi to test a new tornado tracking system. They are joined by Tyler Owens, a popular social media storm chaser known as the "Tornado Wrangler".

As the storm season intensifies, Kate, Javi, and Tyler's competing teams find themselves in a fight for survival as multiple powerful tornado systems converge over central Oklahoma. Kate struggles with her past trauma, while Tyler's reckless behavior puts the teams in danger.

The teams attempt to use experimental technology to disrupt the tornadoes, including launching beads of sodium polyacrylate into the storms. However, their efforts are complicated by a greedy investor named Riggs, who is more interested in profiting off the tornado damage than saving lives.

In a climactic sequence, Kate and Tyler work together to launch silver iodide into a mile-wide EF5 tornado, successfully dissipating the storm and saving the town of El Reno. In the aftermath, Kate, Tyler, and Javi decide to form a new tornado research business together.

The film features impressive visual effects and storm sequences, as well as strong performances from the ensemble cast including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos. "Twisters" explores themes of trauma, scientific discovery, and the human cost of extreme weather events.
