The Uncomfortable Truth

Why criticism is important

By Lucy AmoitPublished about a year ago 1 min read

*Criticism- an investigation of the nature and the limits of reason and knowledge pursued in such a manner that both skepticism and dogmatism are avoided.

Have you ever wondered how it would be in a world where everyone has same beliefs and ideas? Quiet boring right?

Opinions and critics are such important aspects in our lives. Having different opinions and thoughts makes life colorful. Learning from one another, from how one reasons and acts makes us acquire a little more knowledge. In some instances, it also challenges our own thoughts. However, this varies in matters like ethics and morality. Which leads to the question, is truth one? That's for another day.

Let's circle back to matters of opinions and criticism. Opinions subjected to criticism brings more matters to light, leading to shared or acquired wisdom you may say. The existence of knowledge: a priori (independent of experience) and a posteriori (dependent on experience) is a clear evidence of how reason and criticism is importance. In the light of Kant's philosophy, it is necessary to engage in such as it encourages intellectual independence that prioritizes personal judgment over blind acceptance of authoritative assertions.

"The more you know, the more you know you don't know" -Aristotle, and "True knowledge exist that you know nothing"- Socrates

Morality and ethics is equally important in criticism and learning . Remember, "Without a moral compass, the human mind will justify anything"
