The Joy of Painting

Hosted by Bob Ross

By Kayleigh Fraser ✨Published 2 years ago 1 min read

Long before the era of yoga, meditation and mindfulness integrating into western culture; there was Bob Ross.

Loved for his soothing tone, boundless encouragement and heartfelt optimism. Bob did far more than merely teach painting through our televisions. He brought philosophy, therapy and support into the homes of millions.

Forever cherished.

Author Note;

It’s of course too late for the competition but this was laying in my drafts and rather than delete it, I decided to complete it. If for no other reason than for the purest love of Bob and to bring his name to the ears of anyone who hasn’t heard of him!

If you are one of those people, I urge you to go onto YouTube and watch an episode. Bob Ross is the most calming presence and is an absolute joy to watch and listen to. He is therapy!

I did once attempt a Bob painting (with all the wrong colours and type of paint), and it of course looked nothing like his masterpieces! However, it was a lot of fun and I laughed very hard at the result. Which arguably did indeed bring me the Joy of Painting!

    I love Bob Ross! I was so excited to read this! I watch him every night - a double header. And I agree totally with your analysis of what is great about him. Watching him is like being wrapped up in a warm blanket. His paintings also inspired me to write a story so he is my muse too. I felt an almost childlike happiness when I read your critique. Great stuff!!

  • Oh I loved your review so much! I'm so glad you decided to post this instead of deleting it!

    Forever cherished! 👏🏼 He was a happy part of my mostly crappy childhood. I would always watch him. I loved your critique and author note.

    I know that face but I don’t really know anything of him (well I do now thanks to you). I will have to seek him out. Sounds swell! 😊

    Excellent critique! I’m so glad you decided to finish and submit it. I got a Bob Ross T-shirt for Christmas one yr pretty recently and proudly where it on occasion. It’s a great conversation starter. Thanks again.

    Perfect critique of the great man and his afro. I actually used the phrase "happy little accident" in one of my pieces on Vocal lol.
