Now that students are back in school who remembers standing at the side of the desks repeating this pledge with our hands over our hearts? I do remember doing this everyday till I graduated from high school. I remember in early elementary school I was even chosen to hold the flag one day. To me the meaning of this pledge is to say thank you to all the patriots for securing a republic turned democracy and allowing us to have many freedoms to learn and be happy in our choices.
Pledging our allegiance to a people and culture made of many diversities that made this country a 'melting pot' even though there will always be people showing their differences of opinions. We are supposed to be one country indivisible allowing God to help us in our needs and maybe wants. The flag is a symbol of many dreams and wishes of its' citizens and should be honored everyday not just on the Flag Day, Memorial Day, The Fourth of July or Veterans Day, but every day, and actually one who lives in the South should be able to display both flags the American flag and the Stars and Bars with no consequences in my opinion. The Stars and Bars were the Confederacy, but they were still Americans, and they had and have rights too. Both flags have a history.

I worked in an elementary school and every time the Pledge of Allegiance came on across the loud speakers, even though I was in my office, I always stood and recited the pledge to myself. We have so much for which to be thankful.
I've never got the pledge tbh 😁 But if it instils pride and unity and whatnot, that's good right?
Thanks for sharing .
