Rachel Renee Russell has written another in the series of 'Dork Diaries' and this one is entitled 'Tales from a Not-so-Happily-Ever-After'. This is the diary of the main character of Nikki J. Maxwell and the start of her day that describes her morning routine, and of course something always goes wrong. In this one getting ready for school and running late because of her younger sister taking something from her that now makes her feel hurried, and you pretty much know that something is going to happen and does but will not be discovered till it is too late and at school.
The major story of this diary happens after being clobbered by a dodgeball in PE and still kind of fretting over an English creative writing assignment. How would you feel after being knocked out by dodgeball and thanks to that you have a dream that you will hate. Ah, the life of middle school that is filled up with a lot of angst and even good times one way or another from learning fashion to what you may like in kinds of snacks to some early serious kinds of friendships.
Technically, the author wrote this book as if it was actually a diary of a middle school girl that is somewhat popular and yet dorky at the same time with all the adventures of home and school. At the beginning of the book there is a map that kind of shows the basic idea of the book. This is a fun read for this age group of girls.
