No Bright Future

a Poem

I’m looking for love in a time with no future.

Where ice caps are sold in stores as drinks,

While the real ones melt in a blink.

Polar bears have migrated down into the cities,

While people post photos entitled ‘Rare moments’.

And feed off dopamine with likes and comments.

The forests I grew up in, are burning into ash.

Burning my lungs as it contaminates the air I breathe.

And force millions to pack up and leave.

I tell myself that I’ll travel with my future partner.

But another monument has been destroyed.

As more bombs and troops are deployed.

I tell myself I’ll have a family of my own one day.

But another million children were announced dead.

And there are billions that cannot be feed.

And I cry with their mothers, that I never knew.

As the world keeps spin in violence and destruction,

While our leaders keep focusing on the latest overproduction.
