The Kiss

Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has apologized for kissing Spain star Jenni Hermoso during the celebration after Sunday’s Women’s World Cup final. He said “I made a mistake” when he kissed Jenni Hermoso without her consent. The kiss has been criticized as an example of machismo in sports and has sparked controversy.

Luis Rubiales is a former football player and sports executive. He is the current president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) since May 2018. He was also the president of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) before he became the president of RFEF. He is known for his sanguine and passionate character.

Luis Rubiales has been involved in several controversies and scandals. One of the most known is the contract signed with Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup to be held there. He has also been criticized for his handling of racism in football and his alleged involvement in irregularities in the management of the Spanish Football Federation.

Too, he was criticized for his inappropriate conduct while celebrating Spain’s 1-0 win over England in the Women’s World Cup final. He grabbed his crotch in a victory gesture.

Jenni Hermoso Fuentes is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Barcelona and for the Spain women’s national team. She is the all-time top scorer for both Barcelona and Spain. Hermoso developed through the youth teams of her hometown club Atlético Madrid, where she stayed for eight years before continuing onto Rayo Vallecano. She won her first senior title with Rayo in 2011, and in 2013, made her first international move to Tyresö FF in Sweden. Months later, she competed in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 with Spain, scoring her first competitive international goal in a group stage win against England.

Machismo is a term that describes a strong or exaggerated sense of manliness; an assumptive attitude that virility, courage, strength, and entitlement to dominate are attributes or concomitants of masculinity. It is traditionally ingrained in men throughout Latinx cultures and impacts how they behave, speak and interact with others and their role in their household and society. Machismo encompasses positive and negative aspects of masculinity including bravery, honor, dominance, aggression, sexism, sexual prowess, and reserved emotions.

Machismo affects women in many ways. It fosters the idea that men are superior to women and that women should be submissive to men. It also enforces toxic masculinity and restricts men’s emotions. Machismo contributes to a violent society and is a form of sexual violence women suffer on a daily basis. It is something that we cannot normalize.

We can fight against machismo by speaking up about it to family members who perpetuate it. We can also engage with our family and start a conversation about gender roles and stereotypes. We can challenge machismo by promoting gender equality and respect for all genders. We can also pass legislation that condemns sexism and criminalizes sexist hate speech. It is important to raise awareness about the phenomenon and eliminate it.
