The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported on Wednesday that since January of this year, there have been 1,28,834 cases of dengue with 337 fatalities.
According to Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo of the Philippine Health Department, there were 33% more dengue cases from January to July 27 of this year than there were during the same period last year, according to Xinhua news agency.
He claimed that even though there were more instances, there were fewer dengue deaths between January and July of this year than there were during the same time previous year.
"People are seeking early consultation, and hospitals are improving their case management," Domingo stated.
According to Domingo, throughout the previous six weeks, dengue cases have steadily increased in four of the country's seventeen provinces.
Teodoro Herbosa, the secretary of health for the Philippines, asked people to keep looking for and removing mosquito breeding containers.
The country of the Philippines has an endemic case of dengue. Water-borne infectious diseases, such as dengue, typically reach their peak from July to October, when the rainy season begins, because of weather variations, floods, and the build-up of contaminated water.
Dengue mosquitoes breed in plants like bananas and in areas with standing water, such as containers filled with water.
