
Welding Kumar:
"Welding" Kumar was an Indian criminal from Chennai, who gained infamy for an attack on a lawyer for which he was sentenced to life in prison. He was later killed in Puzhal Prison during a fight with other inmates.
Criminal history:
He was charged in 25 different criminal cases, including four murders. The Deccan Chronicle described him as a servant of some Tamil Nadu politicians.

Personal life:
He was born in Nawalar Street near Korukuppet in Chennai. He was originally called Jayakumar. He is believed to have been around 47 to 48 years old when he died. He started his career as a welder in Thandaiyarpet. He is married to Shanti and has a daughter named Divya and a son named Sushil Kumar.
Advocate Shanmugasundaram case:
On 30 May 1995 Advocate R. He gained fame in Tamil Nadu after attacking Shanmugasundaram. The CBI has announced a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of "Welding" Kumar. In the Dancy land acquisition case, the then Chief Minister J. Advocate R. on behalf of DMK against Jayalalithaa. Shanmugasundaram was preparing to file a case. He was severely injured in the attack. The attack angered the Tamil Nadu legal community.
Death:
In June 2009, Kumar was beaten to death by his fellow inmates in Puzhal Jail. He was transferred from Coimbatore to Puzhal Jail two months before his murder. Pulal Jail officials said his murder was the result of a feud over his involvement in prison fraud, in which remand inmates in particular gave their mobile phones to convicts and charged them.

Notorious rowdy and murderer 'Welding Kumar' was today killed in the Puzhal Prison Complex, where he was serving life conviction in a murder case, by three co-prisoners after picking a quarrel with them.
Police sources said 'Welding' Kumar, who had 20 cases pending against him, including four relating to murder, picked up a quarrel this afternoon with Raja, Anbu and Karmegam over smoking a cigarette.
He then picked up a knife and injured one of them on the wrists.
The incensed trio grabbed the weapon from his hands and slit his throat.
A profusely bleeding Kumar was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
A dreaded anti-social, 'Welding' Kumar was involved in a case relating to attack on Advocate R Shanmugasundaram on May 30,1995.
The murderous attack on the soft-spoken, mild-mannered lawyer triggered a wave of protests by lawyers all over the State against the then Jayalalitha Government. Shanmugasundaram suffered multiple fractures to his legs and hands. He also received deep and long cuts on his hands. The little finger on his left hand was chopped off. Shanmugasundaram was in hospital for several weeks. His two assistants, L Bhaskaran and Mohan, were also assaulted. The apparent motive behind the crime was Shanmugasundaram had drafted a criminal complaint to prosecute Ms Jayalalithaa, the then Chief Minister and All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary.
Seven persons were arraigned in the case of which one was acquitted. A local court sentenced 'Welding Kumar, the prime accused in the case and five other accomplices to life imprisonment.
The sentence was later confirmed by Madras High Court.
