Are Prisons Effective?
To diminish crime, what should we do? Should we throw the criminal in prison so that when they get out, they will think twice before committing another crime? Having criminals in prison keeps them off our streets, which makes society feel safe. But is prison the only solution for preventing crime? Or is there an alternative to it? Research has shown that prison is not effective, as it does not reduce crime, despite placing criminals in prison. It may be that offenders are encouraged to reoffend after finishing their sentence. However, do they reoffend because of what they are surrounded by, more crime? What causes criminals to step forward and end their lives in prison? A tragic trend which has increased in recent years.

Do you ever get the feeling someone is watching? It's not your imagination, especially if you are in the UK or China. While China has the global record for the most cameras, the UK wins if you count per capita. With an approximate number of 500,000, a typical Brit is on camera 300 times a day. The topic is controversial wherever you go. Is privacy being invaded? CCTV is restricted to public areas where people are not supposed to expect privacy. If people can see you, why not cameras? If you've got nothing to hide, what's the difference, right? Some Americans might take issue after the April 15, 2013, bombing of the Boston Marathon. Brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were known simply as Black Hat and White Hat. CCTV followed their blurred images before, during, and after the two bombs went off, and it led to their arrest.

She Got Revenge
[Wife] My emotions were running high. My hands shook uncontrollably as a gripped the bottles of petrol and caustic soda. I took a deep breath. I wanted to hurt him, like he had hurt me. I wanted him to feel the pain I endured every single day from his physical actions, his abuse and even his presence. I was at breaking point. Creeping up the stairs to where Deepak was sleeping, I felt powerful. The past months of my marriage with him I was constantly low, sad, and depressed. This was my way of fighting back because I suddenly felt capable. Standing in our bedroom, watching him sleep, it felt strange. It felt strange being in the same room as him and not feeling scared or powerless for a few seconds. I knew this was only because he was sleeping; he wasn’t the slightest bit aware. I unscrewed the lid of the Napalm mixture I had made and didn’t think twice before I began pouring the liquid over him. It was relieving. The touch of the liquid on his body woke him and it rushed me into fumbling with the lighter before he could grab me and hurt me more. Like a firework, his body burst into tiny flames, spreading to the sheets and covers on the bed. The flames became a protective barrier between my abuser and I.

Netflix is home to a bounty of amazing documentaries, from TV mini-series or full-fledged features, and they're often some of the most interesting around. One of the more approachable and proliferated topics of discussion is, of course, crime as can be seen in their new addition of The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story (which I highly recommend, despite it not being a documentary per say). True crime documentaries—and I mean true crime—are hard to come by nowadays, but as you might expect there are an abundance hidden within the deep, dark recesses of the immense Netflix library.

Serial Killers Who Hated Their Mothers
We’ve all been angry or ticked off by our mothers at least once or twice throughout our long family histories, but the following were certain individuals who were either so pissed off at their mothers that it eventually bred their serial killer instincts, or a lifetime of abuse led them to hate their mothers with a passion. Either way, from these familiar and not so familiar individuals, we have gained a certain insight into the mind of the potential serial killer. Viewing a serial killer's youth, especially those who came from sexually or physically abusive parents, is indicative of one of the few ways that famous serial killers chose their targets.

Chapter two How I got into his room, I don’t remember. After all, I was only five. My so-called father was trying to shove himself down my throat. I choked and gagged and resisted and told him that it stinks. He flew into a rage and grabbed me by the throat so hard that it hurt. I looked up into his eyes and saw pure hatred, the likes of which I’ve never seen since. I witnessed evil for the first time and it terrified me. I realized with a wash of horror that I was not safe from the only person in the world left to care for me. He threw me across the bed and molested me. I ran from his room straight to my closet.
