The Hack of a New Generation

The Little Black Book

By Elizabeth FindleyPublished 5 years ago 5 min read

Inside a diner people are casually having a nice meal and it’s the usual hustle and bustle of a lunch rush. A young woman in a dress is talking to someone on the phone and eyes a young handsome man, Joseph in a blue suit. A shot is fired, and the man sitting next to Joseph falls into his burger dead.

Chaos presumes, but not in the typical way that happens when a gunshot is fired. There’s a man that reaches into the dead man’s pocket and holds up a black book. Someone else snatches it out of his hand but he slips on a spilled water glass. The book flies in the air and lands on a tray held by the waitress. Someone else takes it but is punched and the book slides on the floor. Joseph picks it up and places a similar one in its place. Kelly falls into Joseph and looks up in his eyes. He helps her up and they walk out of the diner together.

The next day Joseph is walking excitedly outside his house. He’s talking on the phone to someone. “I have it”, exclaims Joseph. “The black book.” Joseph holds it up and flips through the book filled with notes and passwords that are hard to decipher. Kelly watches from the window without moving a muscle.

Evan is sitting in a dark basement facing toward the wall. He has a lit cigar and he talks on the phone in a very deep voice.” Tell me the story, and don’t screw with me kid,” Evan exclaims. He listens intently without moving while Joseph tells him the story.

Meanwhile Kelly goes and makes herself a cup of coffee grabbing the most expensive cup she can find. She sits at the table nonchalantly as Joseph comes in walking with intent. He ignores Kelly and heads straight for the bathroom.

Joseph walks into the bathroom and shuts the door behind him. He looks in the mirror and washes his face and dries it off with a towel nearby. He looks in the mirror and tells himself, “Don’t trust anyone.” He takes pictures of the pages and urgently throws the pages with code on them down the toilet and flushes before walking out.

Walking back into the kitchen he gets himself a cup of coffee before acknowledging his date from the prior evening.

“Important call?’, Kelly inquired after him. Joseph continues to ignore her. “Seemed intense,” she continued.

Joseph stops as he takes a sip of his coffee. He finally speaks to her for the first time all morning, “Why, were you listening?”

She ignores the question and sips her coffee. Joseph chugs the rest of his coffee and tries to think how he can get rid of this girl. “I’ve got to go downtown in an hour. Can I take you somewhere?” Joseph asks.

She looks disappointed, and swoons a little. “Won’t you kiss a girl first?” she asks.

He hesitates, but leans over to kiss her, and as they kiss she whacks him one of her heels and knocks him unconscious.

As Joseph starts to come to, he tries to get his bearings. The room is torn apart and Kelly appears to have changed clothes and is now wearing a bright yellow outfit. She walks over to him and rips the duck tape off in an unforgiving manner.

“Kelly What the Hell,” Joseph exclaims. He sees another girl that looks like Kelly did before walking in.

“Did you really think Kelly was just an innocent bystander in that diner? Where is the book Joseph?” asks a frustrated Emma.

“Meet my twin sister, Emma,” says Kelly.

Joseph tries to move his hands, but they are tied behind his back. All of a sudden Kelly screams. Emma drops dead and the same bullet silences Kelly soon after. Travis kicks open the door and comes to rescue his friend.

As Joseph and Travis drive away, Joseph dials a number on his phone. “It’s done.” He says. They pull over and park.

“So what’s the deal with this book,” Travis asks.

“Bitcoin passwords. It’s filled with them. Enough to equal twenty grand..” Joseph answers.

“I don’t get it. Why don’t you just keep it yourself?” Travis asks. He shakes his head disapprovingly.

“I get paid to do as I’m told and not ask questions.” Joseph responded. “Do you know how many people have died over this thing.” Joseph sits back in his chair and sighs.

“I really don’t get it.”

“So the rumors about the election being rigged were true, but the guy rigged both sides. Word got out that he was paid in Bitcoin and he got shot. So the guy that shot him has the book, and Bitcoin is now going through the roof, because people are buying it like crazy. This book is the only way to access those accounts. The guy that shot the first guy was shot today, and now the two girls got shot as well.” He shakes his head. “Sometimes the money just isn’t worth it.”

Meanwhile two kids are messing around with a multi monitor computer system. The older one, Evan hangs up the phone as he’s typing in a number. “Hell yes, I win!!!”

“But the girls died.” Billy comments. He sits there looking aghast at his friend.

“They were both mine. I seriously just doubled my account dude. “Evan jumps up and down excitedly. “I hired everyone in that diner to follow the man with the book.”

“Why’d you do it?” Billy asked.

Evan just stares at his friend incredulously thinking that his friend must have the brain cells of a piece of turd at this point. “Because I could.” He just continues to gawk at the ridiculousness of his friend. “Day trading is fun and all and yes i was making money, but Bitcoin was starting to go up. I wanted to see if I could get more people to buy by creating a news story around it.”

He looks at his account.

“It’s still going up dude!!!”

A news report plays in the background as the two kids start doing a victory dance.

“Because of the recent conspiracy theories of the election and Bitcoin, the Bitcoin is continuing to be bought raising the price to unfathomable prices. There’s no denying it. People want in on this action and current trend that isn’t going away anytime soon.” The reporter exclaims.
