The Devastating Story of Rebecca Jeanne Riley's Overmedication Part 4
When a child is treated with contempt

The Tragic End of Rebecca Riley Continues...
The days before the sad death of Riley were marked by utter negligence by her parents.
After Michael chased Riley away from their door that evening, they saw again again when they came to give her her evening medication. After they had given her the high dose of the drug, they left for Carolyn's mom's house, leaving Williams to watch over Riley and her siblings. Riley came back to her parents' room while they were gone, asking for her mom. Williams told her over and over that her parents were away, but Riley kept insisting she see her mom.
She kept looking for her mother, but suddenly, the whole house became quiet, Williams came out and found Riley lying on the floor, he called her but she didn't respond. She picked her up and saw that she was cold, damp, and limp in her arms, Williams, scared, watched Riley patiently. Hours later after the parents came back, Williams kept telling them to take the child to the ER; Michael lied that they had booked a date with her doctor the next day. Soon after, Carolyn gave Riley Children's Tylenol, a liquid cough syrup with dextromethorphan to stop coughing. She also gave her chlorpheniramine to stop any allergies and a clonidine pill.
Later that night around 10 PM, Riley felt better and made her way back to the parent's room, but like other times, she was not welcomed. Michael swung Riley by the arm, shoved her, and yelled at her, "Go to your damn room." She started crying and said she was ill, but no one listened to her, they treated her like she was not there. McGonnell tried to convince Michael to take her to the ER, but he refused. Williams was moved with compassion and took Riley to her room. Sadly, her end was near.
A phone call from his tow truck employer woke McGonnell up around 1 AM, and he noticed Riley was having trouble breathing. He went into Riley's room and found her "choking" and covered in her vomit. McGonnell was distraught and confused, he called for Michael and Carolyn, but like other times, they turned a blind eye, they did not even open their doors to know what the trouble was. Angered by their lackadaisical attitude, McGonnell kicked down the couple's door. Michael looked at McGonnell as if he had been blabbing, he acted as if the situation was a big joke.
Michael showed no emotions, he was unwilling to help Riley get better. Carolyn managed to persuade Michael to let Rebecca who was already struggling to breathe sleep on their bedroom floor. However, he had a condition that she be given another dose of clonidine so she doesn't make any noise. Carolyn gave Riley another half-pill of clonidine before sleeping. In the household, clonidine was nicknamed the "sleep medicine."
Carolyn and Michael found Riley dead when they woke up around 6:30 AM. Her face and hair were covered with a pink foam that came from her nose and mouth and spilled onto the rug. Michael immediately dialed 911 and told the operator that his daughter had passed away in the night. He dropped the call and started behaving erratically, screaming, "Rebecca's dead, Rebecca's dead. I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
