The Case of Nikki Cheng Saelee-McCain

Nikki Cheng Saelee- McCain was a 39-year old Happy Valley resident who disappeared on 5th May 2024 , and to this day she still remains missing.

Who is Nikki Cheng Saelee -McCain?

Nikki Cheng Saelee — McCain was a 39 year old woman of 4 children. She was married to Tyler McCain for 16 years. She had 3 sisters by the name of Kaye Ford , Mey Martin, and Chloe Saelee. She was often described by her sisters as being goofy and silly. Her sisters would say that she had the biggest heart. They would also mention that she was very brave and daring.

Nikki Cheng Saelee — McCain went missing while she was allegedly involved in an abusive relationship . She was always seen with bruises and her sisters would always plead with her to leave him. Every time Nikki and Tyler fought , she would confide in her sisters , and she would always decide to leave him , but whenever Tyler apologises to her she would give him another chance. Tyler can be very persuasive and whenever Tyler would apologize Nikki would think he has changed and this time things would be different. His apologies were that convincing. This was always a practice, they would fight, she would decide to leave him and every time he apologizes , she would go back to him.

On December 2023 , Nikki McCain was hospitalised. She was allegedly abused by Tyler McCain in their happy valley home. According to Nikki, she was physically attacked by Tyler in their home for a course of several hours before she made her escape. Some neighbours even witnessed Nikki and Tyler fighting at their home on several occasions.

When she was hospitalized , she would finally make up her mind. That was the last straw. She would finally decide to leave him, she can’t take it anymore. She would even file domestic abuse charges against Tyler. She disappeared just a few days before the trial date.

Nikki’s Disappearance

Nikki was reported missing on May 21 2024. According to Kaye, Nikki was visiting Tyler’s family members at the hospital on May 17. She was also driving people back and forth in her car. Her sisters would last hear from her on May 17. Nikki would text Chloe that she was at the hospital. Nikki would then drive her mother-in law to her house , but Nikki also has to get home. She would then take her mother-in law’s car to drive herself home.

Later that night Nikki would supposedly sent another text to Chloe saying that she is on her way to drop her mother -in -laws vehicle back to her house. This was weird , she was just there, why would she go back. I personally do not believe this text was sent by Nikki. Someone else must have had her phone.

From this point on no one would ever hear from Nikki ever again. Chloe would respond to the text next morning and there was no response . Nikki’s sisters would later explain that they had a group chat, just the four of them and it was not unusual for not hearing back from one of them for a couple of days. Like they would get busy and they would not text. It was not unusual or anything alarming. After a few days, they would notice that Nikki have not contacted any one of them. That’s when they would start to be worried and knew something was not right.

Kaye even asked Tyler where Nikki was and he said that he has not heard from her for a couple of days. The last time they spoke , Nikki and Tyler had a fight and Nikki went to his mothers house to talk things with her. Tyler would go home and Nikki would never arrive home. This was not right, Kaye knew that something did not add up. As every time Nikki and Tyler fought, she would go to her sisters house , so why would this time be anything different. Kaye knew something is not right and she started to be worried.

Chloe would file a missing persons report on May 21 , 2024. The Shasta Country Sherriff’s Office would handle Nikki’s case. Initially this case was investigated by Redding Police Department , and when an information suggesting that Nikki was last seen in the Sherriff’s office jurisdiction, this case would be handled over to them.

Redding Rancheria is a Native American reservation in Shasta Country . That’s where Nikki’s mother-in-law lives , and this was her last known location since she texted Chloe that she was going to return her mother-in-law’s car back to her.

On July 19th 2024, Redding Rancheria put a press release stating that they have placed a large billboard to spread awareness about Nikki’s case. They are also offering $10,000 reward for any information regarding Nikki’s disappearance. A Facebook page “ Help Find Nikki Cheng Saelee — McCain” was set up. Members of the community also started to set up searches for Nikki.

According to Kaye, Nikki was scheduled to appear in court for a settlement on June 3rd. But, she disappeared right before this settlement hearing. Tyler was facing alleged domestic violence charges. He pleaded not guilty. On July 5th , all the charges against Tyler McCain were dropped and this really angered the community. The Shasta Country District attorney Stephanie Bridgett would soon address this concern. Apparently in United States , people have a constitutional right to confront the witness and in this case witness could not be found. So they dropped all the charges against Tyler. So this would give another chance to Nikki. If Nikki is ever found, she would get a chance to re-file this case or if sufficient evidence is found then they can use her statements in her absence. In this case there were no sufficient evidence and the only witness is missing. So, they had no choice but to drop all the charges against Tyler McCain.

Mysterious fire

Members of community was planning to search Nikki and Tyler’s Happy Valley property. But , suddenly on July 3rd , a fire ripped trough a portion of their “Happy Valley” property. Due to this fire , search could not be conducted. Tyler admitted that he caused the fire, but it was only an accident. He claimed that the fire was sparked by a hot catalytic converter that came in contact with dry grass. Though Tyler admitted to starting the fire, he was never arrested. There was one more fire that happened on July 2nd , this fire burned 19 acres next to a remote residential property in the Western Shasta County. 2 fires really sparked doubt among the community. Something did not feel right about these 2 fires.

That’s all there is to this case. There is a sufficient lack of evidence and to this day Nikki Cheng is missing and no one really knows what happened to her. I really hope Nikki’s family gets some real answers soon.
