The Ever-Echoing Tragedy of Mr. Ahab Croesus
Mr. Ahab Croesus had accounted for all enemies but one. “Money,” says the Scripture, “is a defense,” and Mr. Croesus had plenty of it – he had inherited both his father's money and his father's ruthless genius of increasing it. He was a multinational billionaire who had among his many dreams the goal of pushing Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk right off the road in the race to be the world's first trillionaire.

Operation Defiance
He parked a block in a half from his flat near a park so as to be discrete. He was in a company car, a black Mercedes G-class SUV with diplomat plates which blended in fine in Langley or D.C., but here in Glen Echo he had misled his neighbors into believing he was in medical sales. He hurriedly walked under an amber street lamp clutching a patent leather suitcase tightly heading towards his unremarkable suburban home which also functioned as a safe house and interrogation site, unofficially and unsanctioned by the CIA. He himself had recently undergone fingerprint removal and had his identity and complete personal history erased permanently. He was officially a John Doe, though he carried a false identity with the highest diplomatic security credential’s as well as a dozen others he could use for greater discretion on assignment. Although, his assignments came from the highest places in world leadership his acceptance and methods for achievement of their goals was left to his own judgement. He was chosen for this placement not due to his unerring willingness to follow orders, but his total unwavering integrity to his personal moral code and his incredible ability to carry out absolutely any operative he deemed necessary. John was trusted and respected by all he dealt with which was an incredibly small number that new his role and authority. John was shielded from many corruptions that were still to thoroughly enmeshed in the political powers to unleash his seemingly divine will upon them without chaos. The true powers that be over the world strive to create and maintain order while gradually uprooting evil and never allow rogue agents of chaos to lose control and reign down vigilante justice without immense behind the scenes planning. They had long ago learned the level of set backs that could occur for humanity in that type of power vacuum.

UNCAGED
UNCAGED The Owl Within Her They called her “Officer Owl” because she had the wisdom of a Barn Owl, with the abilities of a Chameleon. Jodi Jenkins worked nights as a Police Officer for the City of Hampden, in Hampden County, Florida. Jenkins was a petite rookie determined to make a difference. Unspoken Request
The silhouetted forms huddled close together in the gathering twilight. A light fog rippled about their ankles as they shuffled around trying to get warm. Among the fog were their stories; each individual's soul with one another entwining, yet never intersecting. And they remembered another misty eve, and that day was as clear to this assemblage of timeless friends and foes as was the scent of sassafras as they watched the tide come in.

The Payback
Henry looked up from his magazine and watched the three boys taking their seats on the bus. All pushing and swearing. The loudest one had a school tie wrapped around his fist and he used it to cushion his hand as he began slowly punching the empty seat in front.

Knights
A knock on the door could have changed everything. We would not be in this place if we weren’t boneheaded children… These thoughts raced through Malcolm’s mind as he stood at the iron gateway to his father’s estate. While enduring his trials, Malcolm had nearly forgotten what life was like at home. It had already been a year, but the heavenly scent of his mother’s nearby flower gardens made the months that passed feel like minutes. The hedge that bordered the Uilkin property and the stone path winding to the front door remained unchanged. Even the grass remained the same healthy green from the day Malcolm left. He closed his eyes and pleaded to himself to wake from this nightmare in his old bed, but a hand on his shoulder snapped him back to reality.

The Barn
I sit in the rafters in the barn of the Old Farm contemplating my life. The November wind picks up and whispers between my feathers as it twists in through the cracks of the rotted planks, making the tiniest whistling sounds as I tuck my head further under my wing. Have I been this way for days? For years? For lifetimes even? I wasn’t always like this. Or at least I do not think that I have been. I very often find myself perched in this way, as a bird commonly does, and then, for a split second, I feel my legs buckle and my vision blur, as if I were scared. I look down at the hay-strewn dirt floor of the silent, crumbling building and wonder what it is to fall. Then in an instant, as quickly as the fear comes, it is gone. A faint whiff of a naive memory is all that remains. The mindfulness of a barn owl has never been one written about by scholars, but I am certain that I remember things. Perhaps they are not things from my life, but they belonged to someone. Every morning, as the lavender speckles begin to melt apart from the yellowing sky, as twilight turns into daybreak, I allow myself to succumb to sleep and relive the same dream, skipping over itself like scratched vinyl.

The companion of a Shoe Shine Boy
The aged, demoralised sun surfaces from underneath one of many ash engulfed clouds in the hope of a glance at her world below. The sights which meet her curious gaze are that of depressing soot coated chimneys overcome by a suffocating whirlpool of pollution; the odd washing lines struggling to keep a grip on the crumbling balcony bricks from which it hangs and the microcosm of ant like people that navigate through the tunnelled alleyways which whisper the tales of heated arguments, terrified cries and the secret encounters of business men dealing dodgy wares.
