The Will
It was crisp, cool morning in Paris. David Rawling was sitting at an outdoor cafe waiting for his breakfast. He had been in his lawyers office finalizing his divorce, when a call came through from France. His great aunt Inez had passed and he was the sole inheritor of her estate. David had hoped that the trip would cool the fresh sting of his failed marriage. Now the only thing to do was wait for the executor.

Dying for the Diamond
I was waiting her table like normal. I watched as she meticulously wrote in what I believed was a journal. It was a little black book with a diamond in the bottom right corner and in script font was Diamond Edition. She was like clockwork. Always here every Thursday at 7:30. Something felt different about today. Her beautiful blonde hair was pulled up in a messy bun. I wondered if she ever wore what I like to call “regular clothes”? You know jeans, leggings, and T-shirts.

Wishes
Mr. Eckert came into the diner each morning at exactly 6:30, sat in the booth closest to the kitchen, and by 6:40 had finished his first cup of coffee and patted Meg on the butt twice. By 6:45 each day, Meg would have told him to knock it off. Some days politely. This Monday morning, she was less than polite.

Chasing Paper
“Big bank, I make big bank,” rapped a 16 year old, not-so-up-and-coming hip-hop artist by the name of Payper Chaser. His real name was Chase Pipers and he thought it so clever that his stage name incorporated his legal name in some way. In his eyes, “Payper” was a great slant rhyme with Piper, and there’s no reason to take the time to explain how he fit Chase in there.

Room 354
I had been driving all day, and darkness began to set in; the blacktop on the roadway was starting to melt together, creating images of things only the soulless speak about. I looked at the radio, and it was already 8:00 pm. I needed a break to think about the events that unfolded today. My arms were still shaky from earlier, and the blood around my chest had dried up and pressed upon my shirt. I could still smell the tobacco and whiskey on his breath, it sent shivers down my spine, and flashes of his twisted smile began to creep into my mind, so I knew it was time to pull over and find a place to sleep for the night.

Family Values
My hands were covered in blood. What kind of monster would do this? Blood drained from her neck where the blade had been just moments earlier. The red flow continued to seep out onto my pants as I knelt over her body. I closed her eyelids because I couldn’t bear seeing her lifeless eyes looking back at me. She didn’t deserve this. How could this have happened?

Trapped
The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was white. Everything was white. Everywhere I looked was white. Slowly a few colours started to appear but seemed to be different shades of white. That is when I realized that this was not my bed and not my room.

The Man Who Disappeared
The man with no heart was average in every other way, which was exactly as it should be. Average height and weight, an ordinary man with ordinary brown hair and unremarkable eyes. Blue? Brown? People were never sure. They could pass him on the street and never remember him. This, and his cold-blooded ruthlessness, made him the perfect assassin.
