State of Oklahoma Executed Pedophile, Child Killer Kevin Ray Underwood
Kevin beat, suffocated, sexually assaulted, and nearly decapitated 10-year-old Jamie Bolin

In 2006, the State of Oklahoma sentenced Kevin Ray Underwood to die for the cannibalistic fantasy killing of 10-year-old Jamie Rose Bolin. On the morning of Thursday, December 19, 2024, Underwood’s 45th birthday, the State carried out his sentence- its fourth execution and the 25th execution in the U.S. this year- at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. Bolan was pronounced dead at 10:14 a.m.
Oklahoma uses a three-drug cocktail starting with midazolam, a sedative, followed by vecuronium bromide to paralyze the inmate, and potassium chloride to stop the heart. The total duration of the process, from the first injection to the last breath, takes an average of 10 to 20 minutes.
Before taking his last breath, Underwood scrutinized the State’s choice of dates for his execution and apologized to Jamie’s family and his family “for all the terrible things I did.”
“The decision to execute me on my birthday and six days before Christmas was a needlessly cruel thing to do to my family, but I’m very sorry for what I did and I wish I could take it back.”
The Murder of Jamie Rose Bolin
Underwood lived next door to the Bolin family. She sometimes visited his apartment to play with his pet rat, Freyja.
On April 12, 2006, Underwood lured Jamie to his apartment under the pretense of petting his pet rat. Once inside the apartment, Jamie started watching Spongebob Squarepants on the television. Underwood walked up behind Jamie and beat her with a wooden cutting board as she pleaded for her life and promised not to tell anyone what happened.
Underwood then suffocated her to death. He then sexually assaulted Jamie and nearly beheaded her in his bathtub using a homemade dagger. He planned to eat her body, although he later changed his mind.
Curtis Bolin reported Jamie missing, and a team of police and neighbors began searching for the little girl. The search ended sadly on April 14, two days after she was reported missing. Her remains were found inside a storage container stored in Underwood’s bedroom closet. Police had visited his home to question him about Bolin’s disappearance.
He was arrested and confessed to killing Jamie.
Nicknamed Coppertop, Jamie liked to sing, read books, ride four-wheelers, and watch movies. She was a member of the Girl Scouts and loved eating spaghetti. Her father, Curtis Bolin, told USA Today in 2007:
“She was a good reader, and she got awards for her reading,” Curtis Bolin shared in a statement recorded in clemency documents. Her “willingness to give” and “help others” is what he was “most proud” of. He was “proud of everything she did.”
Clemency Denied
Lawyers for Underwood applied for clemency and argued he deserved to live due to his diminished mental capacity. According to his lawyers, Underwood suffered from various mental illnesses and ailments, including autism, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and anxiety, and had been sexually abused. Prosecutors denied the request, stating,
“Whatever deviance of the mind led Underwood to abduct, beat, suffocate, sexually abuse, and nearly decapitate Jamie cannot be laid at the feet of depression, anxiety, or autism. Underwood is dangerous because he is smart, organized, and driven by deviant sexual desires rooted in the harm and abuse of others.”
