Oh boy!!!! Do I have a story for you. Colors are not always colors, and black is not always opposite of white. There is always an in between. People who scam do it for various reasons. Believe it or not most of the time they scam you for money. However, there are others that scam just for pleasure. They feel important. True fact 34% adult Americans are scammed every year. In reality that is 1 out of every 3 are scammed.
A few years ago I saw this episode on Dr. Phil called, " I Sold My House for Online Love" where a woman sold her house for a man she never met (2022 February 21). She was scammed $1.3 million dollars for this guy. Also, most of the women they go after are older women like late forties and on. Scammers know that women who are older can be lonely, and looking for love. So these scammers pray on this. They do not care that the woman they just scammed out of money is emotionally attached to their words. Pictures the scammers send are not real. In fact, I just posted a video last night about two scammers that tried to get me. This is my video https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1B66rPdoyR/. I even shared this with both scammers. One thought it was funny and the other got upset.
Anyway, it is true these people will not put their real picture up, and feed false information. However, if one will do a video chat with you. They could be real. On the flip side if they tell you they are in the military, offshore drilling, or overseas watch out. They are scammers. Also, when you confront them they will never say that they are. Beware everyone is on the chopping block for this.
Things to know about scamming. First I want to start out with the important information for you to know if need be. Please call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at (866) 347-2423 if you feel like you are being scammed.
According to U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Romance scams are a type of confidence scheme. Scammers work to gain a victim's trust and provide false information or misrepresentation to gain financial benefit by relying on the compassion of the victim. These schemes are constantly evolving and becoming more innovative (found on google 27 August 2025). On this site they have scamming details listed as follows:
1. The rise of romance scams - all groups are vulnerable. 2. Red flag indicators of romance scams - basically they tell you what these people will do to grab your attention. For example, they work overseas, they are notably younger than you, quickly tell you they love you, inconsistent stories, send fake photos, and they get upset when you confront them. 3. This is an important one. How do scammers demand payment? - cryptocurrency, or bank wires. 4. Tips to losing money to a romance scam 1. Be suspicious of unsolicited calls, unknown numbers, limit what you share online, go slowly and ask questions, do your research, keep it on the platform, and many times they will request you to remove the social media platform. On this site they even make a connection between being scammed and human trafficking (27 August 2025).
Scammers use apps like Telegram, Zangi, and Whatsapp because they are private apps. Be on the lookout for these apps. These apps are private, and cannot be tracked. Do not give money, do not give crypto, and do not give information that can be tracked to you. Please beware these people pray on your emotions, and human trafficking can be involved. Unless you have some kind of protection, do not meet these people. You could be in danger.
