My Passion

By Patrick Wade

I saw these pictures in my head. They would come to me like flashes, I would see these landscapes, and characters, and they would tell stories. In a perfect world I would make movies. This movie is called Roses on the Moon. The film is a romance. I wanted it to make you happy, but in a crisp way. The way that pulls at your heart.

The story starts in a bar in Mississippi, Ruby and Adam, a married couple are drinking to celebrate, they just robbed a bank for the first time. It was a scary, loud, goofy process that flashes in and out, while Ruby and Adam gather their nerves in the bar. They are very poor and the money is very exciting for them. Now with this money, the main character (Ruby) does not have to live in a trailer with her mother in law .The sound of the bank alarm contrasts with the quiet bar they now find themselves in. The TV turns on with a picture of Adams face, his name, and a reward for any information about him.

In a flashback outside the bank we see Adam grazed by a bullet shot by a security guard. Adam's blood drips on the sidewalk, left for the police to find. In the bar bathroom Adam inspects his wound, his wound is infected. He says nothing to Ruby, only asking to leave. Outside the bar Adam attempts to start their car, but he passes out due to blood loss. Ruby discovers Adam outside the bar passed out. He is unresponsive.

She drages Adam to the passenger seat. She drives the car down the road as fast as possible. They cannot go to a local doctor, but he appears to be bleeding a lot. In addition his picture is on the television, and there is a warrant out for his arrest.

Ruby makes the decision to drive to New Orleans. Her aunt is a devoted healer that is known to practice voodoo. She doesn't know much about it, but she knows that if she can get Adam there in time her aunt can nurse him back to life. He is unconscious for most of the journey. It is called roses on the moon because at one point Ruby says to Adam,

“I wish we could just be roses on the moon together.”

She stops to get gas: while inside the gas station, a pair of hunters recognize Adam from the news. They attempt to arrest Ruby: but she is too clever. Ruby lures them behind the gas station, climbing the roof, back to the other side of the building, slashing their tires and taking off in the car.

At this point, bounty hunters are beginning to take interest. After they were spotted at the gas station. One in particular, He encounters the hunters at the gas station. They say that the lady and the man looked urban. “One of them hippy types” is how they describe Ruby.

Ruby drove the car very fast out of the gas station, and it left tire marks on the road. It is clear to the bounty hunter that she was headed west. She wants to fix him up, after that, she wants to go to Mexico. She pulls the car over by the side of the road, and she is very unsure of what to do, looking back at the car with Adam in it, she wonders if she could just walk away. She decides to get back in the car.

In the car Ruby talks to Adam about her childhood; she tries to explain her life: she grew up as an orphan, she was passed around between families, she tells Adam how lonely it was for her, so lonely, "it was so lonely" she says. They would lock her in an isolation room if anything ever happened, and it did. She had a very lousy childhood, so now she hates being alone. She says “ I can take just about anything, I just can't be alone”. She tells Adam how much she loves him, and how she doesn't wanna live in the world without him, but he is asleep, passed out from blood loss. She puts her foot to the floor.

Adam wakes up in New Orleans, they arrived, and her aunt has healed his wounds. He thanked her for his life, he asked what happened? Ruby says it's magic. That's when the cops burst through the door. Adam fights with the cops and in the struggle, Ruby is shot.

She sacrifices herself for love. In the end Adam goes free, but forever on the run, haunted by Ruby's love.
