Robber Vs. Cop

Dumb people who thought robbing police officers was a good idea

I wonder what disconnects in a person’s mind when they decide to do dumb shit like rob police officers. It tops the list of dumb ideas if you ask me. Robbing a cop will end in one of three ways: you get shot and injured but survive to see another day; you get shot and your family is left to pick out a casket; or; you succeed, but get arrested and go to jail or prison for the maximum sentence allowed. Maybe it’s desperation, ignorance, or ice, but something convinces far too many people to rob police officers, as represented in the shocking cases below.

Man Drives to Police Station, Attempted to Rob Police Officer Using BB Gun

On December 26, 2017, Edward Prado of Waukegan, Chicago, IL, pulled up beside an officer-occupied patrol car at the Waukegan Police Department. The officer rolled down his window.

Prado pulled what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun from his vehicle and pointed it toward the officer’s face, demanding that he hand over his department-issued handgun.

The officer did not comply. He, instead, retrieved his weapon and shot Prado multiple times.

The gun was later determined to be a BB gun.

The Lake County State Attorney’s Office determined the officer was justified in using deadly force against the man, and no charges were filed against him.,

Prado was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

He was released to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer, aggravated assault of a peace officer, attempted aggravated robbery, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

16-Year-Old Viciously Attacks, Robs Off-Duty New Orleans Police Officer

On August 8, 2022, a 16-year-old teenager robbed an off-duty New Orleans police officer in the French Quarter. Police did not identify the teenager.

The robbery occurred around 3 a.m. on St. Louis Street as the officer rode his bicycle. The teen approached the officer and demanded his bike. A struggle ensued when the officer did not comply. Several more men entered the assault and attacked the officer.

The teen got away with different property that the officer was carrying, including a personal firearm.

Man Attempted to Rob Undercover Cop in Drug Deal

Okay, this guy technically didn’t know he was robbing a cop, but it goes to show why doing dumb shit is always a bad idea.

On May 8, 2017, Scott Michael Allen of Ann Arbor, MI, agreed to meet a man to sell cocaine and heroin. The man was not a drug user, but instead, an undercover narcotics officer. When the undercover officer pulled up, Allen jumped in the backseat with a gun in his hand. The UO identified himself as law enforcement, and Allen attempted to flee.  Police caught him a short time later.

Allen pleaded guilty to 10 felony charges, including delivery of a controlled substance less than 50 grams, unlawful imprisonment, and armed robbery.

A judge revoked a plea agreement that would have sentenced him to 11 years in prison. He was sentenced to 19 to 50 years in prison plus an additional two years on a gun charge, meaning he must serve 21 years before he is eligible for parole.

Don’t take what doesn’t belong to you, especially when a person in uniform is the rightful owner. It’s never going to end well for you.

Robbing a cop is just plain stupid. Like you said, it never ends well. Take that guy in Chicago who used a BB gun. What was he thinking? And that 16-year-old attacking an off-duty officer? Desperation or drugs must be clouding their judgment. How do we stop these dumb decisions? Maybe better education on the consequences?
