Online Scamming

Beware of Scammers

By Brenda Lee Lord-HingerPublished 5 years ago 3 min read
Be aware

We are all very appreciative and grateful for the convenience of shopping online. Especially so in coping and dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

In fact, many have had to rely on the online shopping. Whether it has been for groceries, meditations, health-food products, clothing, etc. Since March of last year, it has become a part of life.

Unfortunately, hackers and scammers have been taking advantage of opportunities to steal our products, and or our money!

This happened to me personally, and just recently. I will name this particular -company, because I am not the only one who has been scammed out of large funds from them.

Many will no doubt recognize this name-‘Limitless x one shot keto’.

They played me like a fool for just over two months. It was a back and forth game. Your parcel is on its way; ‘Oh’ sorry, there was an address issue’; all is great now! You will receive your package in 7-10 business days. ‘oh’my, not again, you didn’t receive it yet?

I got so sick and tired of playing their mind games-I asked for a reimbursement.

They-the company-says ‘We reimbursed you back in such and such date. Meanwhile, the sixty - day policy passes without me realizing! My banking institution cannot dispute the company for not refunding my money, though the bank tells me that there was definitely-no refund from the said company.

If our banking institutions will not lengthen their disputing time policy, and the police do not get involved-where does that leave us?

It brings us all right here! This letter was sent to my banking institution, the Better-Business-Bureau, and of course to the company that swindled me.

I advise anyone who is, or who has been taken advantage of by a scammer, or scamming company-to fight for your personal justice, and rights and for the rights of others!

It took quite some time fighting for my justice, but I got paid back from my bank, and they went after the company, and the BBB has their investigation going as well.

How about when we are traveling, when and why do we need to be careful. Different areas of the city, or at airports-really? Yes really! There are Wi-Fi hot spots. Crazy right-not to mention down right scary!

Fake Wi-fi hot spots are popping up everywhere and it’s difficult to tell them apart from the real deal.

Be smart about it before traveling and purchase a $ 20 dollar Visa or MasterCard, and then purchase airport wi-fi access (enough for a couple of days)

This way you won’t be broadcasting your credit or debit card information.

“It is a lucrative and easy practice for criminals to do. They duplicate the legitimate web page of a wi-fi provider like Verizon or AT&T and tweak it so it sends your information to their laptop”. (Brian Yoder, Vice President of engineering at cyber defender)

Be careful that you are not setup to automatically connect to no preferred networks.

Do not do any banking or internet shopping from public hotspots-unless you’re absolutely positive the network is secure. Always look for https in the lower right hand corner of your browser for a small padlock icon.

Stay ahead of scammers by boosting your online security, and preventing them from targeting you. Out smart scammers by spot phishing emails-we do this by: hovering over links to see the actual URL address.

Any requests for money or personal information or suspicious attachments, or even a message-body that is an image. Stay away from!

Unless you are 💯 % confident that a message is from a known source-don’t open attachments or click links.

Always be on the look-out for red flags- that someone could be spying on your computer whether you in public or lounging on your sofa internet browsing-shopping.
