The Jason Jones Chronicles

By James ReesePublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Chapter One

Jason Jones stepped out of his Pearl White Rolls Royce Cullinan with the smug look of a spoiled billionaire. “What a day.” He said dismissively to himself. He was a short slightly chubby man with dark brown skin and small eyes that set back in his head. He wore a Rolex Sky Dweller, $4000 Dior high tops and $35,000 diamond encrusted custom shades. He looked like success. Inside he was dying though.

His longtime girlfriend Kalana was in a secret relationship with his business partner. It wasn’t a secret anymore. Jason discovered a journal hidden in the wall by the bed in their home and it told everything. That was three weeks ago. Jason had made his fortune carefully calculating every step of his journey. He wasn’t going to treat this situation any different. He didn’t know if he wanted to confront her or hold it. Part of him felt betrayed another part felt relief. He had a bevy of women he dealt with outside of Kalana but she was the special one.

Years ago when he started his first tech company she was by his side. She even used her personal credit to purchase the building blocks for the software that went on to revolutionize a whole industry. His business partner Bernard Watts was a childhood friend...more like a brother. They started from the streets together and built an empire. The recent betrayal hurt deep but Jason wasn’t about to let anyone know it.

He casually walked into his plush 10 story office building, tipped his doorman $100 bill and got on the elevator. His main office was on the top floor. He exited the elevator, walked in and greeted his small but talented staff. “Hey family how is everyone today? We making this money or what?” Most of his staff laughed or smiled and nodded. His President of Operations Ralph Morton called him to his office. “Bossman we need to talk briefly.” Ralph was a short fair skinned man of medium build with a slight lisp. He had also been with Jason since the old days in the streets. Jason kept a tight circle. He heard Ralph, nodded and responded. “Ok let me just check on a few things in my office and I’ll be right over.” Ralph was persistent “No you need to hear this now big guy.....Trust me.”

Jason made his way over to Ralph’s office and walked past him to take a seat. He smiled and spoke. “So what’s so important that it got you all wound up man?” Ralph looked concerned. “Look...I don’t know how to say this but we just lost the Mercer account.” Jason leapt to his feet. “What!!!!” He became angry and moved closer to Ralph “Your kidding me right? This is a prank right? Please tell me this isn’t true man!” Ralph shook his head “Unfortunately it couldn’t be more true....” Ralph paused before he continued. “Look I got us covered I’ve already been trouble shooting the loss and I’ll send a memo out soon.” Jason was furious. “That ain’t the point and you know it bro! This is WINTECH we don’t lose! PERIOD! That’s what the WIN in the name means!!! Your fired!!” Ralph looked stunned. “Fired??? Come on Jay your overreacting big guy. It’s one account.” Jason turned and looked Ralph straight in the face. “That’s the type of thinking that lost us the account! I want your stuff out of the office today! I love you like a brother but this is unacceptable! A 30 million dollar acct is not just one account! No matter what your memo says we take a huge hit with a loss of that size!” Just as Jason was about to shout another angry word there was a knock at Ralph’s office door. Jason blurted out angrily “Who is it?! We’re kind of busy.” it was Stephanie Jackson, Jasons staff secretary. A beautiful Jamaican woman who barely ever spoke above a whisper. “Sorry to disturb you boss but Kalana is on the line and says it’s urgent.” Jason immediately toned down. He looked down at the ground briefly before he spoke. “Okay thanks Steph I’ll take it in my office.”

Jason glared at Ralph as he walked out of his office. “This conversation isn’t over and my decision stands.” Ralph just sat down at his desk looking somber and defeated. Jason rushed over to his huge corner office and took a seat in his large Italian leather reclining office chair. He took a deep breath before he picked up the phone. Finally he pressed the hold button and picked up. “Hey baby what’s so urgent you had to call me here?” Kalana usually had an alluring and sensual tone to her voice, but at this moment when she spoke she sounded confused and concerned. “Hey you. I tried your cell you didn’t pick up...” She paused before continuing. “I don’t know any easy way to say this but I just came from the doctor.....I’m pregnant Jay.”
