Money Hungry (Chapter Two)

The Jason Jones Chronicles

By James ReesePublished 5 years ago 7 min read

Jason stared blankly into space for a moment before he spoke. “Pregnant? You sure baby? Last I heard I was shooting blanks and we couldn’t have kids.” Kalana was tall, slim and almost majestic when she walked in a room. She had perfectly smooth light brown skin and see thru hazel eyes. She spoke with what sounded like genuine concern. “Yes baby I know and I’m as surprised as you. But my doctor confirmed it I’m six weeks pregnant. I thought you would be happy.” Jason smirked slyly on the other end of the phone. “ I am happy just a little confused and taken aback. I never thought in a million years we could have a kid. Where are you? Can you meet me at the house?” Kalana seemed to be calming down. “Sure baby where are you? The office?” Jason was pacing his office with a sneer on his face “Yea I just got here but I’m going to call it a day and meet you at the house. I drove myself today my driver has the day off. I’ll see you in about an hour.” Kalana actually smiled. “Okay I’ll see you there baby can’t wait.”

Kalana hung up and immediately dialed her best friend Ameerah Stokes who’s nickname was Mimi. Kalana and Mimi were best friends since 1st grade and had each other’s backs thru thick and thin. Mimi was the complete opposite of Kalana, slightly overweight with coffee colored skin, brown eyes and long curly hair. She picked up on the first ring. “Girrrrrrrl did you tell him?? What did he say? How did he react? Do you think he knows?” Mimi was excited and anxious to hear all the details. Kalana chuckled as she spoke. “Girl can you calm down and let me answer the questions one at a time? Sheesh....So yea I told him. And he didn’t say much you know Jay you can never really read him. Far as him knowing I have no idea. He said something about him being sterile but I couldn’t tell if he was accusing me or just being inquisitive. I’m on my way to meet him at the house now.” Mimi was still amped up as she spoke. “Girl he knows! I’m telling you! You better get your story straight now. Did you ever find that journal?” Kalana sucked her teeth. “Actually I didn’t but that was three weeks ago that it went missing he wouldn’t have held it this long without saying anything....you think?” Mimi sounded irritated “Girl you irking my nerves being so gullible! Keeping a journal like we still in 8th grade! Oh my God! You know Jay is slick as they come and patient. I’ll bet my life he has that journal and knows EXACTLY wassup! You done did it this time Lana!” Kalana laughed “You always over reacting Mimi. If that man knew something I would’ve been able to tell. Besides he has a dozen hoes on the side I wish he would try to trip.” Mimi sounded almost angry. “You really dumb huh? Like are you crazy? It’s BERNARD! You could’ve picked any other dude but you go with his MAIN MAN! Just dumb! You know what why do I even care? Go home so he can pull that journal out and slap you with it. Your going to be calling me crying. There’s plenty of room at my estate when he kicks you out. I’m just saying.” Kalana was still grinning. “Kick me out? Girl I’m still Lana the Great. This shot still got him hooked don’t trip. He ain’t throwing his day one out. He knows he won’t find another me. If he has the journal we will just have to work thru it. He’ll drop Nard before he drops me. Mark my words. But thanks for your concern I love you Mimi.” Mimi finally cracked a weak smile. “ I love you too... for life. Sisters for life we ride or die. Keep thinking this one is a game though. This is a whole life your bringing into this world girl....Anyway call me soon as it’s over I’m not going to breathe until I hear from you.” Kalana laughed again. “Okayyyyy stop being so dramatic. I’m driving now I’m about to be at the house in like 20 minutes. Talk to you soon.” Mimi sighed “Okay bye.”

Jason was doing 100 mph in the Cullinan on the way to his mansion. His mind was racing in 10 different directions looking at all the angles. The Mercer account needed to be retrieved and that meant a trip to Dubai. Bernard was the original point of contact on that account and would need to be there. Those were his clients that he poached from his cousins hedge fund in New York. This whole love triangle would become an instant distraction and affect business. A switch clicked in Jason’s mind as he made the decision. Act happy and surprised about the baby and play it cool.

He pulled into the long paved driveway of his 20 room estate, and drove hastily past his sprawling acres of grass and shrubbery. He beeped the horn at his landscaping staff who just so happened to be giving his lawns their weekly manicure. He parked close to the end of the circular driveway just in front of the main entrance right behind his fully restored 65 Mustang. There was also a few of his other cars parked randomly on the driveway. A bright yellow Lamborghini Aventador, A Black Bentley Mulsanne and a White/Navy Blue Bugatti Chiron Sport. Jason saw Kalana’s pink BMW M6 Gran Coupe parked in front of the door. She had beaten him there.

He took a deep breath as he opened the huge French doors that lead to his front hallway. It was paved with Spanish marble tiles with sprinkles of 24 carat gold in them. The long mirrors on either side of the hallway were handcrafted in Egypt out of brushed Sandalwood. He walked into his immense living room and saw Kalana calmly waiting on his 12 piece Italian leather sectional. He smiled as he spoke. “Hey babygirl...so we having a baby huh?” Kalana jumped into his arms and gave him a long sensual kiss. “Yes we are baby! I’m so excited! I can’t believe it! And we thought we couldn’t have any! Look at God!” Jason was disgusted inside by her performance but played along nonetheless. “God is definitely good baby. I’m praying for a boy you know I’ve always wanted an heir to this WINTECH throne.” Kalana took his hand as she spoke. Let’s go make love by the pool. This baby fever has me horny.” Jason grinned as she led him to the back of the estate. “Your wish is my command baby.” They walked to the end of the Olympic sized pool and made love for an hour straight on the plush velvet pool furniture. Afterwards they both sat naked staring at the water. Jason was quiet but Kalana spoke. “That was amazing baby my goodness.” Jason smiles dryly. “We never have ANY problems in that department...that’s a fact.” Kalana smiled. Yes that’s factual my love. Remember we used to sneak and do it on the couch of the trap house back in the day? All your workers coming in and out with the pack money you would cover me with the blanket.” Jason laughed. “Yea I remember. We came a long way since then. You been with me from day one. My rock. The one I know would never cross me or betray me.” Kalana took a few uneasy breathes but stayed calm. “You know I would never do anything to hurt you baby. I’m here forever. And now we will finally have our child as a symbol of our love and devotion to each other. I love it.....and I love you Mr. Jason Jones.” They kissed and made love again by the pool....

Bernard Stokes sat in his Midnight Blue Mercedes Maybach fuming. He was tall about 6’5 with dark skin. He played linebacker in the NFL for 3 seasons and got injured. He still stayed in the gym so he was in tip top shape. He was the enforcer when him and Jason were still in the streets. Jason just called and said the biggest account he ever had was lost and had to be regained. Jason’s girlfriend Kalana, who he was also dating, called right after and said she was pregnant. Bernard knew for a fact that Jason was sterile and there was an almost 100% chance the child was his. These two situations were going to be almost impossible to manage. In that moment he made a rash decision. Kill them both. As he let the thought form in his head it started to make sense. With Jay out of the way he would take over WINTECH and run it how it should be run. With Kalana gone no baby getting in the way of progress. He knew just who to call from the old neighborhood to handle it too. “I’m a get Turf to smoke both of them.” He murmured to himself as he reached for his phone. Turf, who’s real name was Tremell Chase, picked up on the second ring. “OG, what it look like big bro? Ain’t heard from you in a minute. Everything good?” Bernard spoke quickly. “Meet me at the corner of the old block in a hour.“ Turf replied like a soldier. “Say no more.” They both hung up. Bernard continued talking to himself out loud. “This whole thing is going to get handled one way or another. I ain’t taking no losses period.”
