Lies'n Lies

I came home from school, dropped my backpack on the floor, and went to grab my phone. Then my mom started talking to me.

“Sweetie, something came in the mail for you,” my mom said as she handed me an envelope. I picked up the letter and when I opened it there was a check for twenty-thousand dollars inside with my name on it. I screamed! “Honey what's wrong,”she asked.

My dad walked in and asked the same thing. Stuttering to talk, I finally said: “I just got a check for twenty-thousand dollars”. Now where we live twenty-thousand is a lot of money for a 14-year-old to have. And I don't know how or why I received twenty-thousand dollars, but I took the money and put it in my little black book.

My black book was a notebook. I wrote all my secrets and wishes inside and it contained everything I wanted to do. It was kinda like a bucket list, but I spent hours everyday writing into it my deepest thoughts and desires.

DING DONG! “Honey can you get that?” my mom asked. I put my book on the counter and rushed to the door. It was just my friend Liliana, who is also my neighbor. I had forgotten she wanted to hangout.

“Hey Cecee,” she yelled. Not to be rude, but she is very loud, but I love her so I don't care. Scratch that, I do care, she yells my ears off all the time.

“Hey Liliana, guess what,” I said, “I got twenty-thousand dollars, isnt that amazing?”

“No way, you're gonna share some with me, right?” she asked somewhat quietly while glancing at my dad; he has no tolerance for shouting in our house.

“Of course I will, it's right here in my...” I paused talking if you realized. Right about now you're probably asking, please continue in the story, things were just getting good but, I put my hand on the counter hoping to reach out and grab my notebook...my little black notebook! It was gone. You probably might have seen that coming. I'm not going crazy because I'm a hundred percent sure I put it right there. No, make that a million percent sure.

“Ahhhh,” screaming, knowing my dad was in the room!

“What's wrong?” everyone asked.

“My black book is gone, and it had my twenty-thousand dollar check in it,” I yelled! My dad got up and had his keys in his hand. “NO, no one is leaving this room till I find my twenty-thousand dollars!” I demanded.

“I will not let anyone leave till I find my twenty-thousand dollars,” I said again. My mom came over to rub me in a caring, gentle way so I could calm down, but I didn't want her to. I wanted everyone to help me look because that was the book my brother gave me before he died. It wasn't about the money anymore, it was about finding the book! Suddenly someone knocked on the door. Everyone was staring at me like I was crazy. They thought I was over exaggerating, but I ignored them. I walked to the door and when I opened it, a man in a black suit wearing shades handed me my book. I thought to myself HOW THE HECK DID IT GET OUTSIDE?

“Would someone like to explain to me what in the world is going on?”

“Sweetie, come sit down,” my mom said calmly.

“NO! I asked a question and I want an answer.” I took a deep breath. Something fishy was going on. First, I almost lost 20k and then a strange man wearing a suit in 85 degree weather handed it to me. How did he get the book?

“Honey, listen to me, your brother, your brother is still alive,” my mom said. I froze!

“What are you talking about? He died, remember, he got hit by a truck,” I shouted.

“Well, we were told by a man he is still alive,” my dad said. At this point Liliana had left in scared precaution that things were going to get wild. And, I had never been so confused in my life.

“ Who was that man? Stop lying to me!”

“Cecee,” my mom shouted. “Look at the back of your book”. I flipped through page after page and got to the back of the book. It was my brother's will. Let's pause.

So just in case you're confused, my black book escaped from the counter and somehow got in a strange man's hands who then gave it back to me, and now I've found out my brother who's been dead for 2 years is still alive and his will was in the back of my book. If you're lost don't worry, I am too. Ok, resume!

“Huh!? What is going on? If my brother is alive, then what does this book and that man have to do with it?”

“Honey, your brother is alive and is being held hostage. That money was what we owed to get him back,” my mom said.

"Wait what," I yelled, "yes please take the money you should of started with that first, ."

“Did you hear that?” I yelled. I heard a noise in the kitchen like small footsteps. I thought to myself that someone was in are house.

“Hear what?” my mom and dad asked, “Honey focus, we can finally get your brother back thanks to you. And we can finally focus on family”.

“But,” I stopped talking because there was something I wasn't being told. My brother was dead and I had to live with that, but my money was gone and my parents would never lie, and they would of told me something sooner. And, I'm pretty sure someone else was in our house!

We were honestly, after everything that's happened, we were probably being robbed. But I thought really hard and added everything up and said in a strong non-bluffing glare, “You're not my parents.”

They made a long crooked look at me and said,“You're right, we're not”.

“If you're not my parents then where are mine?” I said and then Music started playing in the background. It was over.

“Thats a rap, good job guys, take five,” the director said. Now you may be wondering, uh that took a turn. Yes, I've been acting in a show this entire time.

You wanna know what happens next. That's a secret I'll never tell because you'll just have to wait for the next episode. Oops! That's my cue, Gotta go! The End...or is it...Find out next episode!
