Husband Hires Man to Ra.pe His Wife

Man says it was part of a rape fantasy

By Criminal MattersPublished 4 years ago Updated 10 months ago 2 min read

In 2016, a man hired a ‘homeless drug addict’ to rape his wife for $200.

In March, officers responded to a call reporting an accident at the home of Russell Higgins, 48, and his wife. The Tehachapi residence became the scene of a horrific crime when the unnamed wife came home to a darkened bedroom. She saw her husband standing in the shadows by a “younger Black man.”

The woman screamed as the men tied her up. The unknown man ripped her clothes from her body, and under direction from Higgins, proceeded to rape her. As the man raped his wife, Higgins suggested new positions and gave him sexual tips.

The woman managed to bite her husband’s hand during the attack, although he threatened to kill her, her children, and her grandchildren if she resisted the rape.

After the rape, Higgins ordered his wife to shower to remove DNA evidence. The victim turned on the shower and washed her hair but did not wash her body.

The victim then handed police Higgins' phone, telling them it contained hundreds of thousands of images of rape-themed pornography. They conducted a rape kit on her, later identifying the attacker as Haliki Green.

Haliki Green Found on Union Street

Leads led detectives handling the case to Union Avenue, a decrepit area about 50 miles from Bakersfield known for drugs, prostitution, and crime. There, officers arrested Haliki Green on rape charges, naming him as the man in the bedroom with Higgins.

Green himself was homeless and addicted to drugs. He told officers that Higgins approached him asking if he wanted to make a little money. He claimed that his wife had a rape fantasy, and he wanted him to make it come true. He offered him $200 . Green accepted, and the men drove to the Higgins home.

Higgins knew Green because he often visited the area to indulge in drug use secretly. Crack cocaine was his drug of choice.

Green was taken into custody, where he spoke to police again. He adamantly denied raping the woman, claiming he thought she wanted it because Higgins said it was her fantasy. He confessed that he had smoked crack before Higgins approached him and wanted the $200 to buy more drugs and said they smoked drugs together after the rape.

Convictions & Sentencing

Higgins had one prior criminal conviction on his record, a 1985 sexual assault. He was found guilty of rape and false imprisonment, and several other charges. He was sentenced to 53 years to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in March 2041.

Information concerning Green’s criminal history is not available. The judge nor the jury believed Green’s story suggesting Higgins told him the rape was part of a fantasy. He was convicted and sentenced to 118 years to life in prison. He currently serves his time at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. Green will be eligible for parole in March 2041.
