On the Christmas eve, December 24, 2002, Scott Peterson came home from fishing, he found out that his wife Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old pregnant woman is not in home, he worried about her well being as a loving husband ,he quickly called Laci's friends and Family to enquiry about her . Laci's Sister Amy, and Mother Sharon replied they have no idea where she went.

Worried Scott Peterson reported Police that his wife Laci missing from their home in Modesto, California.

Police started investigation, Police detectives Allen Brocchini and Jon Buehler responded to the missing person call, and became the lead investigators for the case.

the detectives interviewed Scott and performed a cursory search of the home. Scott told detectives he had been fishing for sturgeon at the Berkeley Marina, approximately 90 miles from the couple's Modesto home

The detectives found Laci's keys, wallet, sunglasses, and purse in a closet, and began organizing a search of the area.

Laci is a house wife and 8 months old pregnant has no reason to runaway., At a press conference, detective Al Brocchini said police did not believe Laci left without contacting her family: "That is completely out of character for her"

Days passed ,weeks passed ,no news of Laci. This case quickly gained nationwide media coverage.

Police getting pressure from both media and also from Laci's family.

A $25,000 reward was offered—later increased to $250,000 and, finally, to $500,000—for information leading to Laci's safe return. Posters, blue and yellow ribbons, and flyers were circulated. Over 1500 volunteers distributed information, worked at the command center, searched for Laci, and held candlelight vigils with Scott for Laci.

Four months later, In April 2003, the bodies of Laci and her unborn child washed ashore in the San Francisco Bay, near the area where Scott claimed he had been fishing. were discovered on the shores of San Francisco Bay.

Police became suspicious of Scott due to inconsistencies in his statements and behavior. Scott Peterson was arrested shortly after the discovery of the bodies.

Police investigate that Scott Peterson had affair with Amber Frey, a massage therapist, was discovered, and her testimony was crucial in the prosecution’s case.

Amber Frey informed detectives she had met Scott on November 20, 2002,and he said he was single. Additionally, Frey told detectives Scott said on December 9, he was a widower and this Christmas would be his first without his wife.

Based on the dates and information Frey provided, detectives now believed Scott began planning to kill Laci two weeks before Laci's disappearance.

A piece of duct tape was found on Laci’s remains, which matched a roll of duct tape purchased by Scott Peterson.

Scott Peterson’s alibi for the time of Laci’s disappearance was inconsistent and contradicted by evidence.

The investigation revealed that Scott Peterson had been planning to leave Laci for another woman and had purchased life insurance policies on Laci and Conner.

These evidences make Scott Peterson, a brutal murder .

Scott Peterson was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. In 2004, he was found guilty of first-degree murder with special circumstances and second-degree murder. The jury deliberated for 11 days before reaching a verdict. Scott Peterson was sentenced to death, but his sentence was later overturned in 2020. In 2021, he was re-sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
