Swavy didn’t deserve to die. Real name, Quinton Dorsey, just looked for a come up by dancing and selling his brand of clothing on TikTok. What’s the harm in that? He was killed by association by a gang called NorthPak in Wilmington, Delaware. The assailant, Israel Lecompte, 21, was sentenced to two life sentences for another murder as well in 2021.

Lecompte has no possibility for parole and will spend the rest of his days in a cage. And for what? Because young people wanted to improve their lives through entrepreneurship? These Wilmington killings have decreased, but the pain felt by the families never goes away. There is no such thing as closure in these cases. Sometimes there are no answers. All the people related to these victims can do is stand guard for their living family members and themselves.

It is sad that this had to happen to someone who clearly possessed talent and business skills. Dorsey can be seen on TikToks showing off his moves and his merchandise. Matima Miller didn’t deserve a bullet, either. The most vicious of crimes seems to always happen to good people. It is disheartening to even contemplate the amount of deaths that have marred the city streets.

The gangs are fueled by drugs which should be legalized. The money they make from robberies and murders only fuels the flames of discontent. Two promising people laid out can be added to another slaying at the hands of Lecompte where the judge sentenced him to 27 years behind bars. The madness of the gang scene should be abolished with more police presence and the defunding of all gangs. Once all illicit substances are made licit, there will be a day when striking declines in crime will be even more evident.

As far as Dorsey and Miller go, they will be remembered by millions of people for trying to create a better life for themselves and their families. The righteous thing to do in these circumstances is to applaud law enforcement and the justice system for their steadfast work and ability to nab and sit down Lecompte for his natural life. Due to the diligence of the agents of the legal system, the loved ones might be able to glean some sense of relief.
