Child sexual abuse(boy)

The main source of perversion is children. Children are most often subjected to sexual abuse by their closest relatives and neighbors. The rate is high in various countries, including Bangladesh. Our law does not say anything about the rape of boys. And according to the definition of the law (of Bangladesh), it does not even accept the idea that boys can be victims of rape. However, in 2024, 36 cases of rape of boys were reported in Bangladesh. According to UNICEF, the number will be 24 to 31 crore worldwide. That is, 1 in every 11 boys is a victim of sexual harassment or abuse.

Like most workers working in this sector, various religious educational institutions are more likely to be victims of such harassment.

In November 2023, a study was published on sexual violence against children in Dhaka Metropolitan.

It highlighted several factors as the reasons why children are victims of sexual abuse.

For example, the study has mentioned that the abuser's sexual gratification by establishing a relationship with the child or having masculine thoughts about himself can be a factor in this case.

The child's external beauty has also been mentioned as a factor.

The study has mentioned that the environment in which the child lives can also be an important factor. For example, children living in disadvantaged or dangerous places are more at risk.

Law enforcement and awareness are needed to stop sexual abuse

Rights activists say that the most effective way to stop sexual abuse and rape of children is to improve the law and order situation.

One of the reasons why criminals refrain from committing crimes is the fear of punishment, said Ms. Biplob.

She said, "Acid violence was once very common in Bangladesh. After the government took action, it decreased. Similarly, if the law and order situation is improved and some examples of punishment are created, it will also decrease."

However, this rights activist also believes that it is not possible to stop sexual abuse and rape of children by improving the law and order situation alone. Because many cases do not even reach the police.

In that case, it is necessary to increase awareness and surveillance on the part of parents and teach children about this.

In particular, due to the lack of awareness among parents about this issue, they are not able to make their children aware.

As a result, children are suffering. Many times, they do not understand what is happening to them, so children cannot tell their parents about these incidents separately.

Law enforcement and awareness are needed to stop sexual abuse:

Rights activists say that in that case, first of all, parents need to be aware of the safety of their children. Not only in the case of outsiders or strangers, but also in the case of acquaintances and close relatives.

At the same time, it is important to include topics such as sex education for children and making them aware of which type of touch is good and which is bad in the textbook.

However, rights activist Ms. Sultana said, "We included these topics in the curriculum and there was a lot of discussion about it, but they are not able to take it easily. It has even happened that the pages have been stapled."

As a result, not only is awareness not created, but children are also being deprived. In this case, rights activists are suggesting a way out of the situation by building social resistance.Sexual assault and rape are harmful to both children and adults, both physically and mentally. Let's be more vocal against these. Let's give more importance to mental health. A healthy mental state plays a role in being successful in all aspects of life.
