Car Bomb Terror

An Unexpected Murder

By Joseph Roy WrightPublished about a year ago 3 min read
Don't get in this car!

It all happened back in 1987, Tommy Christian was an obese Italian man who was spending time with his family in Sicily. They had just left America to return home for the summer, however Tommy had made a large number of enemies in New York city, as he was an infamous mafia mobster. One who had organised all kinds of different crimes around the city, since the early 1960s, Tommy had climbed up the ranks to become the head boss of his family gang. He never thought in a million years, that his foes from such a distant land would ever track him down all the way up here in Italy. So when he climbed inside his luxury car after a long and delicious meal at the city's finest restaurant, he felt that his life was in no danger whatsoever. Then, when he turned the keys in his motor and sparked the engine. The whole car exploded and set fire! The explosion was loud and shattered glass from all around the street, from other car windows, wine glasses and house windows. There were unfortunately a lot of tourists passing by when the car bomb was set off, killing at least 10 innocent people, perhaps more alongside the infamous Tommy Christian. It had been such a beautiful summer's day too, only for it to end in such horror and bloodshed was truly tragic.

A police investigation was soon opened, as Detectives looked into the murder. It was quickly proved that the reason Tommy's car exploded, was because a car bomb had been placed beneath the front bumper of the car. CCTV showed a hooded man, who interfered with Tommy's car while he was having a meal at the restaurant. Detectives found it infuriating and odd, that restaurant staff didn't notice or stop this mysterious stranger. Unfortunately the killer walked off any available surveillance footage and became impossible to track. However, the fact such a thing was allowed to happen in the first place was very suspicious to the Detectives, as surely someone would've seen this happening and perhaps chose not to report it. The restaurant staff were soon questioned. At first it seemed everyone there was innocent, so the Detectives left the restaurant and began following other leads.

They soon discovered that one of Tommy's rivals was with another gang named the McCrearys, an Irish crime family who often had gang wars with the Christians over turf in the burrows of New York City. Out of all the different enemies Tommy had, this name stuck out to them in particular, because the owner of the restaurant where Tommy's car had been parked outside of, was owned by a woman named Maria McCreary. She was also from Ireland and had recently bought the restaurant from an Italian owner for almost a million euros. The timing was bizarre, alongside the insane purchase price. So soon she was visited again by police and interrogated extensively. She was a smart woman however, refusing to speak without a high paid lawyer present. This challenge proved difficult for the local police to overcome, but by questioning other people around her, including the previous restaurant owners, it was soon proven that Maria was indeed part of the same crime family in New York. There were photos with her alongside the crime family, found inside one of the McCrearys pubs in New York. Now that Police knew she was connected to the rival crime family, it wasn't hard to piece the evidence together. It was soon concluded that Maria knew Tommy was going away to Sicily during this time and bought the restaurant in preparation, perhaps there was a spy among the Christian family who ratted Tommy out, this was something the Police couldn't quite prove but it made for a solid theory. Maria McCreary was soon jailed for the murder, and the McCreary family in New York were soon investigated by American police too. However it seems they were able to bribe and talk their way out of trouble. The McCreary family still operates within New York to this very day. So next time you visit the Big Apple, make sure not to anger any Irish gangsters. They may just put an early end to your holiday.
