10 Years Later, Search For The Hoggle Children Continues

It has been 10 years since Sarah (3 at the time) and Jacob (2 at the time) disappeared since September 7, 2014, in Maryland. The search continues and the family is still searching for answers. What Happened to Sarah and Jacob? Were they murdered by their mother, did Catherine sold them into trafficking, or are they still missing?

According to the missing person ad, Sarah Hoggle was born on November 20, 2010, and Jacob Hoggle was born on July 3, 2012, to their parents Troy Turner and Catherine Hoggle. Their mother, Catherine Hoggle was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Sarah and Jacob have an older brother.

September 7, 2014 (10 years ago)

Sarah and Jacob were last seen with their mother. On the day the children disappeared, Catherine told Troy that she dropped Sarah and Jacob off at "daycare"; however, when it was time to pick them up, Troy said she couldn’t tell him where they were or the location of the daycare. After hours of searching, Troy and Catherine stopped at a Chick-fil-a restaurant. Catherine went in for a bite to eat and she promised to tell him where the children were at. While he waited in the car, Catherine went inside where she slipped out the back door. After realizing she had fled, Troy called the police and reported her and the children missing. Several days later, Catherine was found wandering the streets of Germantown. Montgomery County police arrested her and charged her with child neglect, obstruction, and hindering. On November 6, 2014, it was revealed in court Hoggle allegedly told her mother she could take the police to where the children are. Hoggle’s lawyer said she did not want to go, and Judge Eugene Wolfe refused to sign an emergency order for her to leave Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center.

Catherine was later charged with murder; however, a judge found her incompetent to stand trial and ordered her to the maximum-security psychiatric facility Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center in Jessup. Catherine swears that the children are alive and that they are safe.

Hoggle’s defense attorney, David Felsen told WTOP:

“At the time of the children’s disappearance, Ms. Hoggle was in the throes of a severe mental health crisis — she was schizophrenic, she was paranoid, she was delusional. As a result, I don’t think we’ll ever have a credible story of what happened to the children, and that is a tragedy for everyone.”

Turner told the station:

“We will never give up trying to bring Sarah and Jacob home, no matter wherever or however they are. The focus has deviated too far from my babies for too many years. There are laws in place to protect Catherine, but not Sarah and Jacob.”

Still, after 10 years, no luck since the Hoggle children's disappearance. Catherine's murder charges were dropped in 2022 and remains at the mental facility court ordered by the judge. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children this week released new, age-progressed images of Sarah and Jacob. The new images show what Sarah and Jacob would like at 12 and 13 years old. Turner has spent his 10 years looking for Sarah and Jacob, spent Christmas, birthdays, and other holidays without them. In interviews, Turner expressed missing his children and hopes they are still alive.

Honestly, the Hoggle children's case is similar to Casey Anthony, Tylee, J.J, and Relisha Rudd and it doesn't end well. I do believe Catherine murdered her children and buried them somewhere but part of me believes maybe Catherine traded her children to someone to take care of them. Honestly, the Justice System in Maryland has failed once again just like Keith Warren. So far, I am hopeful that the children are alive and out there.
