Friendship
i'm a bad friend (but you're a bad friend too)
So don't ask me where I've been Been avoiding everything 'Cause I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend I've always had difficulty when it came to making friends. Being shy and quiet while also suffering from social anxiety made it hard to make connections. I learned that being alone was easier, but loneliness itself ate at my bones. There were numerous nights in my bedroom during high school where I found myself on my knees at the side of my bed, hands together in prayer as I prayed to God to send me a friend.

Who is Paul Stewart?
Hey. So, this is my entry for Kayleigh Fraser's unofficial Get To Know Me Challenge for September. I feel like during my time publishing on Vocal I have given of myself quite a lot. Whether I am writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, satire, horror or in the comments, there is always quite a lot of Paul Stewart in there. So people know about my accidental poet status, my love of music and film maybe, my family, my animals, my depression and anxiety and trying not to shy away from the fact that I am an incredibly flawed individual.

My “Get to Know Me” Challenge
This might be a little short because I honestly can’t think of much to say here (woof), but I’ll do my best! 1. I think I’m pretty funny sometimes. I used to want to be a writer for SNL. Now that I know that schedule’s way too crazy, I’m not sure how it will work itself into my life, but I hope to share more of my true voice and humor with people one way or another.

This is the Prayer & Confession
Today, September 3rd, 2023, was a day of change in our home. I watched my adult son borrow my old truck to move more of his things to his first home, which will be entirely his own. Suddenly, the lyrics of Harry Chapin's song "Cats and the Cradle and the Silver Spoon" came to mind.

Get To Know Me #challenge. Top Story - September 2023.
A fun and easy challenge that I think will be a very lighthearted way to get to know each other a little more. We all bare our deepest pains in our poetry and weave them into our fictional tales but who else are we? What are some of the things we do for pleasure behind the scenes of our writings? What are some things no one would likely guess about you?

Drama of the Day
Today was an interesting day with a decent amount of mental drama... Backstory: In high school, I was in a small group of music nerd kids. There were four of us and three of us were really close, hanging out outside of school. Meghan, Alana, Julia, and me. Meghan, Julia, and I were inseparable for three years. Now, Meghan and Alana are not around Julia and me. They stopped talking to us after high school.

I 'm Leaving Vocal And Facebook
Sorry about the clickbait title but you know damned well what I am like. Grammarly just told me to split clickbait into two words and when I did, it then sold me I had just to use a single word. Then the Vocal editor auto-refresh kicked in and wiped all the corrections that I had put in.

Esperanza Rising
The summer of 2008 was tough on my family. The housing market had just crashed and with my mother being a teacher and my father working in factories here and there during this time, we unfortunately had no safety net to fall into when the floorboards were ripped from underneath us. One weekend we went to the library in the town were we used to live. It was a distant drive but climbing up the hills and through the newer streets to the glorious hall full of books felt like a life changing adventure everytime we made the trek. It took us thirty minutes to get from our doorstep to the automatic sliding doors opening onto grey colored carpet. Typically in libraries the childrens and adult section were seperated by either seperate rooms or even separate floors. This helped provide time for families to safely practice being away from each other and find refuge in a good story; without a worry of having to be someone’s parent or someone’s dutiful child. We could all just be individuals who happened to walk in together at the library.
