Some Misleading Messages and Myths about Medium - Read if You Want to Avoid Caught by these Myths
If you run your blog on Medium, Must Read This!
Medium is a platform for writers and readers. Medium welcomed all the writers and readers to join the medium community. There are millions or billions of writers who are working on medium. Many people share their views and experience about the medium.
They guide newcomers very well. However, there is still a mess about the medium. Newcomers go through all the difficulties and mayhem created by many people. So, instead of helping them, the myths about the medium generate complexities for them to learn the medium. So, everyone should be aware of the myths and facts.
Myth 1. Quantity Matters more than Quality
How it can be possible the quantity becomes more important than quality when talking about writing? Medium never appreciates people who are posting a large number of stories and articles without maintaining the quality. Medium is not a local and low-rated platform that is hungry for your poor content. There are many awesome writers who are earning uncountable money from the medium by contributing their incredible content. However, you should keep in mind that quality doesn't mean writing one article in a month. You should be active on the site to grow. Instead of writing 5 to 10 articles with no information and quality in a day - write one article in a day with helpful and informational content. Well, if you think you can write 10 long-form articles with the best quality in a day - definitely, you can go for it. The only thing, I want to say here is don't compromise on quality. Without quality, the quantity will serve you nothing.
Myth 2. Medium is all about Technical Writing
Many medium writers are spreading a piece of information that the medium is promoting to the technical writers only. They are sharing this information in a group conversations on different social media platforms and via youtube videos. That is not a fact. The medium does not only welcome technical writers. There is a variety of niches and genres you can write on. Again, niche and genre do not matter but the quality matter.
Myth 3. Medium is Biased
Most people think that the medium does favorites and selects people for curation and distribution based on its choice. Why medium will do this? The medium doesn't know anyone personally. From the medium side, everyone is welcome to write, create and share. Medium select quality to curate and distribute without bothering the person who wrote it.
Myth 4. Medium Love some Specific Niche:
Many people have a concept that the medium promotes the writers who write in the medium's favorite niche. Is it not sound unlogical? I mean, if it is so, then why medium allows people to write on the niche medium don't like? Then why medium not mentioned its favorite niche in its guidelines articles? Again and again, it's quality that matters. Note it down somewhere, it's quality and the only quality that matters. There is a huge number of people who join medium for reading instead of writing. So the medium team takes care of its all community. The medium does not restrict you to write on a particular niche because readers have different interests. Not all readers love to read a single niche neither all writer has an interest to write on a single niche.
Myth 5. Length of Article Means Curation
The length of articles or stories could be a factor that may affect your state and reading time but you should know the other aspects as well. Regardless of article or story length reader will only stay if you have created something innovative, informative, qualitative, and helpful. If you have created 4 min read story that is suited to the reader's interest, the reader is not supposed to go until he/she didn't reach the last word of the story. And if you have published a story 9 min reading time but in a very boring, uninformative, and non-comprehensive way, the reader will not even complete the 1 min read and will leave halfway (This is what I do).
Myth 6. The Medium doesn't Know about Plagiarism
The medium doesn't need copy-pasting. You have no need to steal someone else content neither try to make people fool. A reader knows well where the content comes from. Medium has clearly mentioned in its curation and distribution guidelines that plagiarised content will not be selected for further distribution as well as it is against the medium term and rules to publish plagiarised content. Medium appreciates passionate writers and wants creative, informative, and original content.
Final Thought
This is what I learn through my experience on medium. I explore mediums and found different factors, myths, and facts. The points I mentioned above are only myths. Medium only appreciates and promotes quality content. The medium team doesn't know anyone personally and nor it promotes people based on their personal interests. The medium team is not blind and neither they are robots. This platform is run by human hands and they cross-check every uploaded content to ensure quality. So that they select content for curation and distribution without any injustice.
