Maybe This Is Why I Don't Have A Cat
Some thoughts On Why I Don't Have A Pet

Introduction
My friend Randi posted this meme on Facebook and I thought that is perfect for me.

This is how I think cats think about themselves and it is how I think about myself. I am not an uncaring person but I do feel I am too selfish to care for a pet, but I will further elucidate on the subject.
Am I Really A Cat?
Probably not, but check out the picture on this story. I am a very caring person and I want everyone, especially my friends to have a reason to smile. I make sure that I am always there for people if they need help or advice and with my Vocal Friends and audience I always try and read and comment on their stories to help them feel that their work is valid.
But on the other hand, I do love it when my work gets attention and get a little disappointed when my work seems to be ignored. The devil inside me takes it as a put-down when my work is not noticed when the reality is that people have just not seen it.
I also know I am too selfish to look after a pet. People ask me if I have a cat or if I am going to get one and I say no. I know cats can be great company, and their owners love them but I could not share my home with a cat as I would be too selfish to do all the pet maintenance.

Then I start to think "Would A Cat Look After Another Cat Or Pet?", not if it affected the main cat's lifestyle. I think a cat would have to see some tangible benefit from looking after another animal.
While I do like people (like cats do) I do gravitate towards those that give me benefits (like cats do). My benefits are usually inspirations to create and just the pure joy of chatting with people.

The cats that I meet most are on the street although some friends have cats, and a few cats like me because I bring them goodies and stroke them and play with them (although I often end up with a lot of scratches).
So although cats want different things from humans than I do, I think you can see my similarities with the feline kind.
Of course, cats are far more attractive than I am. I am unlikely to be stroked or fed by anyone but, as I said, I do want different things from humans than a cat does.

I love the disdainful look of the ginger cat above as it lounged in the sun. Personally, my lounging is usually done on my sofa in front of the television or listening to some viny.

When I wake in the morning I do some extreme stretching to get my blood flowing before washing, shaving and showering, a bit like this little guy here.
Conclusion On My Cat Commonalities
I am wondering which Vocal Community this belongs in. Should it be Humans, Confessions, or Petlife? I do think this is really another Confession although it could bleed into the other communities as well, but Confessions it will be.
I am certain I won't have a pet sharing my house, although I am OK with the ones that come to visit me in my garden because they are just friends a do not expect anything from me apart from the odd stroke or petting.
I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings on this subject and I thought I'd best include a few of the photographs I have taken.
Thank you for your time, it is really appreciated.

Growing up we had 42 cats--& we lived just inside of town. No mice in our neighborhood.
I completely relate to this. I love cats, but I don’t feel like taking care of one. And dogs are even more high maintenance. My ideal partner wouldn’t be a pet owner either, because I’m not sharing our bed with an animal.
My mum’s cat went missing for 5 months and when she found him it took her a week to get him home. He wouldn’t go to her. But he let my stepdad pick him up and take him home.
Cats are Cats. Thank you for the nice story.
Laughed out loud at "unlikely to be stroked or fed by anyone." That's probably true for most of us. Lol
Since you have such an affinity for cats, I also wondered if you owned one. Question answered. Although, I’m not sure I’d agree with what you described as selfishness. I was thinking of getting a kitten even though I am allergic to cats. That’s probably a bad idea lol
