Man Drives Drunk with Baby on Board!
A concerned citizen scolds the errant motorist
In a vehicle with a Delaware license plate, a man pulled into a parking lot after damaging some property. He was drunk. A concerned citizen went to check not on him but his toddler son, still strapped to the car seat.
The woman recorded the whole thing and expressed her deep interest in the welfare of the child.
The man offered a half-hearted apology and the woman redressed him saying, “Say sorry to your son!”
All of this points to the fact that some adults aren’t grownups. People might reach adulthood at eighteen but to fully mature, that may take decades later. The man in the video seemed dazed after the footage began rolling on the digital device.
Everything that it takes to be a complete individual adult lies in the idealism of reason. This man’s irrationalism could have led to his son’s injury or demise or someone else’s. By not thinking, he placed himself and others in a precarious situation. If he had in fact brought on more damage or harmed the body or ended a life or lives, this video would have shown the destruction of the physical in others as well as the mental status of the man.
Concerned citizens are not nosy busybodies with nothing to do but nitpick on their neighbors. They show a genuine care for justice and for doing what is right. This does not include some old lady dialing the police because crack rocks get exchanged in the park next to her apartment. No. This means that a smart working person in the neighborhood notices an actual crime that could get somebody hurt or lead to someone’s death.
The woman, (who does a fairly good job at recording a volatile situation by the way) snitches in the best sense of the term. While the video doesn’t portray any authorities being called, it is still noteworthy that this lady actually called out the drunk driver and showed compassion for the little boy. She showed total commitment when it came to safeguarding the young boy.
With her attention focused on keeping the drunkard out of the driver seat, she broadcasted to the world just how dangerous and irresponsible the man had been. Intent on communicating to the audience that the man was not just wrong but vicious for even considering to get behind the wheel, knowing full well that other people (including and especially his son) could be wounded or killed because of his actions.
This is what it means to be irrationally selfish. While most people would say that all selfishness is bad, rational self-interest is the good part. Irrational selfishness is the nasty alternative. It is the ugly flipside of selfishness. It says I can do whatever I want to do because I feel like it. It says that whims win over thought. The man in the video clearly fell in line with the unreason of drunk driving. His faculty of processing information should have guided him to the place of understanding.
What the woman in the video did was record heroics. She became a visible symbol of what it is like to identify and showcase justice. She was having no parts of the man reentering the vehicle. She indicated to the people that she “did her job.” She did indeed. She talked to the man and explained to him that he should have stayed home and got drunk. That is the essence of the end of Prohibition. It is completely legal for an individual to get drunk or high on private property and never consider using heavy machinery or driving a vehicle. She knew this and he should have known better. For her valiant efforts, the videographer should be applauded and lauded.
In the scope of being someone who is willing to confront potentially hostile people, it is individuals like her who make it safer for everyone. The idea of policing each other was brought to bear when the woman tapped the record function on her phone.
