Help a Mother from Ukraine Recover from Medical Debt
"A mother from Ukraine shares her struggle with medical debt after saving her mom's life. A true story of strength, love, and survival."

Hello.
My name is Kateryna, and I am a single mother from Ukraine. I never thought I would find myself writing a letter like this, but life sometimes leads us down unexpected and difficult paths. Today, I want to share my story with you — not to seek pity, but in the hope that kindness still exists in the world, and that even across great distances, hearts can find each other.
Last year, my mother faced a terrifying health crisis. She needed urgent heart surgery to survive. Without hesitation, I did everything I could to save her life. I borrowed money, took loans, and fought against time. I did not think about myself — I only thought about my mother, the woman who gave me life, the woman who had always been my pillar of strength.
Thanks to the surgery, my mother is alive today. Every morning I see her smile, I know it was all worth it. But saving her life came at a heavy price. I am now buried under $8,000 of debt — a mountain that grows heavier every day. For a single mother living in Ukraine, this is an overwhelming amount. Our economy is fragile. Opportunities are limited. And for me, raising two young daughters alone, it feels like drowning in an endless ocean.
I work hard. Every day, I fight to provide for my daughters — to pay for rent, food, clothes, and school supplies. Every day is a battle. After covering the most basic needs, there is almost nothing left to chip away at this debt. It hangs over me like a dark cloud, following me everywhere, making it hard to breathe, to sleep, to hope.
Sometimes, after my daughters fall asleep, I sit alone and cry quietly. Not because I am weak — but because the weight of this burden feels too much to carry alone. I have always tried to be strong. I have always tried to smile for my children, even when my heart was breaking inside. But now, I realize: sometimes strength means knowing when to ask for help.
I am reaching out today not because I have lost hope, but because I still believe in the goodness of people. I believe that somewhere, someone might read my story and feel a spark of compassion. I believe that even small acts of kindness can create miracles.
If you can help — even with a small donation — it would mean the world to me and my family. Every dollar is a step toward freedom. Every dollar is a light that pushes away the darkness. Together, many small acts of kindness can lift a heavy burden and give a struggling mother and her children a second chance.
If you are unable to donate, that’s okay. Sharing my story is also an incredible gift. Spreading the word can reach someone who is able to help.
No matter what you choose to do, please know this: you are making a difference. You are proving that love and compassion are stronger than any hardship. You are giving hope to a mother who refuses to give up. And you are helping two little girls grow up knowing that goodness still exists in the world.
Thank you for reading my words and for caring. Thank you for standing with me and my family in this difficult time. I will forever be grateful for your kindness and your light.
