Get To Know Me #Challenge

Behind the Curtain

I heard about this challenge via other writers and it intrigues me to read about others' lives. I have spoken about how Vocal is like a music band consisting of many instruments and musicians. We are all different and yet united. Here are ten things about me to bring to light.

I love hockey:

I started watching hockey at the age of 6. I was intrigued at how fast they moved and how organized yet disorganized the game is. I collect hockey cards and used to have a hockey card autographed by Georges Laraque. My dad tossed it out before I moved out. I met Laraque at my job at a grocery store and he stayed in the store signing people's shirts/items for over an hour. I sold a Connor Mcdavid rookie card for only 250 American. That card goes for over 5 grand.

I could count to 100 before speaking sentences:

I have spoken about Sensory Processing Disorder, and subliminally hinted I am a sufferer. At he age of 4 I was different and often neglected because of it. To keep me entertained because I did not interact with other kids, my mom gave me math problems. I was often quiet around people, and a few people called me the Rain Man.

I have a twin sister:

I have a twin sister I have not seen in 18 years. I message her via e-mail and even though we don't see one another, our bond is decent. Growing up she saw me as an embarrassment and as such she bullied me. We set aside our differences now and have moved past it. When she was 18 she packed her bags and left home. I did the same thing 17 years later, with the difference I only left behind a note to my parents.

I made my first friend at age 20:

I have a best friend, no not my Renard my fox, but an actual best friend. I met him at my first job. His name is Tyler and he is the focus of my poem-My Miracle. We call each other once a week and try to make time to see one another. I spend Christmas at his house. Despite my obvious oddities, he has never treated me like a lesser being.

I have limited cooking skills:

My parents never let me cook or taught me how to cook. I cook my own meals-shrimp/chicken, quinoa/brown rice and frozen vegetables. Or, I use my blender for a smoothie or my air fryer. Anybody out there-get an air fryer!

I live by the bottle:

At age 20 I fell into a stress induced coma. I was pronounced dead for a few seconds. While I lived and was virtually unscathed, I have to drink 16 liters of fluid a day. About 10 liters is plain water, I do drink soft drinks and sparkling water as well.

I have been on medication since I was 10:

A Gastroenterologist diagnosed me with anxiety at age 10. I have multiple diagnoses including Schizophrenia and Complex PTSD. I am compliant with medication and treatment. I do not use recreational drugs and despise alcohol.

I love video games:

I love playing video games. My favorite game is Runescape, but I do play sports games such as NHL, Madden and NBA. I play shooters as well and fighting games. I suck at shooters but I enjoy them.

I love horror movies and books:

One of my favorite books is The Omen by David Seltzar. I feel we need to read and watch horror to better understand our own darkness in our hearts. I laugh during most horror films. It is just an odd quirk I have.

People say I have Benjamin Button Syndrome:

When I was 12 I looked older than I do now at 39. I have been called and old man since I was 4. Now people ask if I am 18 and old enough to see some movies.

Thanks for reading

You're aging backwards! Ha! And omg! 16 liter?! That's insane!!! I had some weird kidney disease and I have to keep the liquids going if I don't want my left kidney to stop, but I only have to keep around 4-5 liter a day (they said more would be too much) and even that is hard at times. I basically pee 20 times a day. XD You have a very interesting life story, it doesn't sound like an easy one but it damn makes you special and strong. It's nice getting to know a bit more of you. I'm glad I stumbled upon this one. ❤️
