A Day to forget in high school

Fear: A man's demon

It was in the second year of my junior high school . I was ten . Smart, gentle , one of the top students in a Nigeria public school . But I had a weakness , I was easily intimidated by people or my environment .

They say fear is experienced in the mind , but triggers physical reaction in the body.

I am testimony to this and I'll be sharing a story on the most EMBARRASING DAY of my life .

Mr Awopetu was our Agricultural science teacher , he was fierce , strict and feared by all students. If you're been summoned to his office, the fear of him would have done enough damage to you even before you know what is waiting for you .So we all tried our best not to get on Mr Awopetu's wrong side.

In my school we had two breaks the short break like a recess and then we had the long break when you go for lunch and all. But students had the habit of taking excuse of going to the toilet while they wander about the school while there is teaching going on.

So in an attempt to curb this habit . Mr Awopetu passed a rule that no one is allowed out of the class until its time for break. In my mind I thought I had no problem. I liked classes and wasn't one of those who has inculcated that habit. But little do I know that this was going to cause me so much damage .

It was a Tuesday we has the science teacher in class and about two hours from break I felt the urge to go the toilet to urinate. I was holding it , me and my bladder were fighting this strong urge.. but suddenly it got tired I had a moment of relapse and before I knew it I had flooded my sit with pee...

Oops! I am in trouble I thought, I started shaking . I had a million thought in my mind; I would be mocked by my mates , I would be beaten by the teachers and called stupid.. I was just there I couldn't stand .

Soon enough, people started noticing. First they thought it was water but the smell oozed and it was soon realised that one of the best student had pee on his body. God I was embarrassed . But then I was surprised the teacher called me and ask , I explained to her and my friends realised it was a plight.

They quickly came to my rescue.. took me to the changing room and gave me an extra uniform to change into. I was embarrassed , because then they made it into a joke and gave me the name 'my baby ', I lost all confidence and was all by my self .

When I got home later that day I reflected on it , realised that the popular saying that 'if you don't face your fears at times , you regret on the long run '. So from then I made a promise to mu self . To be bold and always say my mind when necessary.

It soon faded away from people's minds. But it stayed with me even till this day. Not as something that's brings fear and intimidation any longer , but as a propellant to always look out for my self, always speak up when necessary and never give in to fear.

Fear has done harm to a lot of people some that couldn't even be recovered from , so the message is to face your fears and live above it .Take that bold step, go for it. Better to try that regret

Embarrassment
