Oliver, a night janitor at the city library, began noticing lights flickering after hours. Books moved on their own. One night, he caught a glimpse of a woman in an old-fashioned dress shelving books that didn’t exist in any catalog.
She introduced herself as “The Midnight Librarian” — guardian of stories that were never written. Each book contained lives that might have been.
The climax: She offered Oliver one of his own unwritten books—a life where his late wife had survived. But when he opened it, he realized living in that world meant erasing this one. He chose to stay, but every night, he returned to the shelves, wondering what could have been.
