The Mask That Learned to Breathe
It wasn’t worn — it was waiting.

A sculptor in Florence made masks so lifelike they seemed to inhale. One day, a nobleman asked for a mask of his late wife. The sculptor worked for weeks, carving every detail, until one night, he heard a sigh.
The mask had opened its mouth. It whispered, “Where is he?”
Panicked, he locked it away, but the next morning, it was gone. The nobleman was found dead — his face missing.
Now, the mask travels from owner to owner, always reshaping itself. Some say it’s still searching for the sculptor who first gave it breath.
