Plot Twist
The Life of Levi Rupp: Part 5
Levi was finishing his shift and wanted to walk home, a chance to air out the struggles of his recent events from Silas, from the coach, and his emotional ties to Mila. “Levi, a word before you go.” It was Levi’s boss, either his schedule changed or he’s being fired due to recent budget cuts. Levi gave him a nod acknowledging him as he gathered his bag of clothes. It was a mobile office, so the space was confined, and his boss was sitting down, exhausted from the long night. “Sir.” “Ah, Levi. This won’t be long, I know you have school tomorrow so I’ll get to it.” Levi was silent, standing respectfully with his arms crossed in front of him. “Levi, I want you to take a vacation.” “A vacation?” “Yes, you always come into work, you work hard, and you never call out. You’re young and you have a lot on your plate. Take all of next week off.” “Thank you, but…” Levi’s manager raised his hand, cutting him off, “Levi, you’ll still get paid your hourly wage, but I want you to rest. Part of working is discovering balance. Now, go home and I’ll see you in a couple weeks.” Levi, smiling from the good news, thanked his boss and began his long walk home.

We were several days away from the location and would be traveling in highly monitored waters to get there.

Coconut.
Eli first saw her again at a house party in Heaton, five years after their last conversation. The room pulsed with bass and cigarette smoke. Laughter spilled out in pockets. And there she was—Amina Diallo. By the window. Wrapped in string lights and memory. She hadn’t changed much. Braids down her back. That sharp, unreadable gaze. A half-smile that seemed to slice right through him.
