Somebody's Someone - Chapter One

Yennia and Khand

"Somebody's Someone"

The story between Yennia and Khand is marked by emotional complexity and quiet heartbreak. What began as a friendship gradually evolved into a situationship characterized by one-sided devotion, blurred boundaries, and unspoken love that lingered for years. Khand's deep affection for Yennia was steady and unwavering, while Yennia leaned on him not out of romantic desire, but for comfort, support, and escape. This connection, both painful and persistent, revealed itself in cycles of closeness and distance, apologies and silence, always simmering beneath the surface of something that was almost, but never quite more.

Yennia and Khand had been friends for about three years, but their relationship was far from ordinary. It was more of a love-hate situationship. Khand harbored deep feelings for Yennia, and without a doubt he was everything she wanted in a man, a friend, and a partner. Yennia she did not see him that way.

Instead, Yennia treated Khand like a go-to person. Someone to vent to when her day was bad, when her broken relationships weren't working, or when she was low on money. She always ensured that the door remained open for communication with him. Khand understood her perspective on their connection, but his care ran so deep that he continued to be there for her whenever she needed him. He had always promised her that he would never give up on her, no matter what.

Khand often warned Yennia that the guys she dated didn’t have good intentions and only wanted her for what they could get. However, she wouldn’t listen, assuming that he made those comments just to persuade her to date him. At times she would be cold or dismissive, sometimes even cutting off their friendship for months, depending on the person she was involved with. Even then, she would still respond to his texts, but always with short, distant answers—until the moment she needed something again.

Each time, she would apologize, and each time Khand would accept her apology. He always moved forward, striving to be the best version of himself for her.

One day, Yennia found herself sitting alone thinking, “Maybe I should give Khand the chance to love me the way I want to be loved.” She knew he would make her happy; he was loyal, kind, and consistent, especially after she’d been through several failed relationships.

But if she were honest, the only reason she was considering Khand was that the man she had the strongest feelings for didn’t care about her beyond the physical aspect. He toyed with her emotions, leading her to believe there could be something more, even though he knew there wouldn’t be.

Eventually, that reality started to sink in. For the first time, she thought, “This is how Khand feels about me. This is exactly how I treat him.” She realized she had love and deep care for the other guy, but it wasn’t real love; it was desire mixed with disappointment and denial.

Yennia decided to call Khand and ask for his thoughts. He told her plainly that she didn’t truly love the other man. Instead, she was likely just infatuated and her feelings were tied to the emotional connection she felt during their encounters. Conversations like that always tore Khand apart. Every time she talked about another guy it broke him a little more. He felt inadequate, even though he had consistently shown her that he was exactly what she needed.

Yennia would tell Khand she loved him, but only as a friend. Though they exchanged “I love yous” occasionally at the end of their conversations, Khand knew her words came with limits.

Throughout their situationship, they would occasionally meet up for lunch or to watch a movie. During those moments, Khand found it hard to suppress his feelings, but each time he expressed them. It only pushed Yennia away. It irritated her because, deep down, those were the words she wanted to hear from someone else, not from him.

As time passed, Khand began to feel the strain of this endless emotional cycle with Yennia. Her cold replies, hot-and-cold presence, and constant apologies—followed by nothing changing—started to weigh heavily on him. He still loved her, but something inside him began to shift. His patience had limits, even if he didn’t want to admit it.

Before giving up, he decided to try one last time to lay everything bare. Instead of calling her directly, he asked her to meet in person and told her she could choose the place. Anywhere she felt comfortable. Of course, she picked the most expensive restaurant she could find. Khand didn’t protest; he showed up without hesitation, knowing this wasn’t just about dinner; it was about his final attempt to be fully honest face to face.

During their quiet dinner in a private booth, he laid it all out. He told her how he felt, how much it hurt to be treated like a backup, and how exhausting it was to always come second to men who saw her as convenient. He expressed that he was reaching his limit and was teetering on his breaking point. This was his final effort to be heard.

Instead of softening, Yennia grew more defensive and irritated. The conversation escalated into an argument that went from quiet disappointment to loud emotion. Yennia stormed off, furious—not just at what he said, but at how deeply it mirrored things she wasn’t ready to admit.

Later that night, shaken and confused, she called one of her closest friends to talk it through. She recounted her side of the story, spinning Khand's words as selfish or dramatic. But her friend wasn’t buying it.

“Girl, you’re always complaining about wanting a good man, yet you’ve had one standing right in front of you this whole time. Your dumbass keeps settling for stones while the diamond you’ve ignored keeps shining on its own,” her friend said bluntly.

Yennia went quiet. That truth sank in. She thought long and hard about what her friend had said and agreed, but she still didn’t act. She didn’t reach out or try to make things right. She was too emotionally caught up in the man she was invested in, even though she knew he was wrong for her.

And so, Khand let go.
