Secularism is a Misguided Path

A reflective take on Islam’s role in modern secular societies—and why divine guidance still matters.

When the call is raised that religion should be kept separate from worldly life—like Hinduism or Judaism—the first question a Muslim must ask is: should Islam also be limited to personal worship and spiritual matters only? Or does it have a comprehensive system for life?

In today’s world, secular ideas are being promoted as if they are neutral or beneficial to everyone. Muslims are also being urged to adopt this system. The term Secular System or Secularism refers to a life where religion has no place in politics, economics, or society.

In such a system, Islam is asked to stay away from worldly matters. When Muslims demand the application of Islam in every aspect of life, the world calls it Islamization, and those who support it are labeled Fundamentalists.

The term Fundamentalism has been used negatively, though it originally means adherence to basic principles. Due to the misuse of this word, it now carries a negative connotation.

Why Islamization?

What Path Should We Choose in This Conflict?

Should we adopt the teachings of religion or the secular system that is prevalent in the West?

We Possess Intellect

To determine this, we need to look at both directions. One is the secular state, where religion is separated from politics. The government and way of life are based solely on human reason. They claim: “We have intellect, and that is sufficient for creating principles and a way of life.”

We also have intellect. But our intellect is also accompanied by experience and observation. When intellect is used in conjunction with these, it becomes stronger and decisions become more sound. So, if another person already has experience and tested principles, should we ignore that and rely only on our limited intellect? Or should we base our system on that tested knowledge which includes divine revelation?

*Is Intellect the Final Standard

Islam guides every aspect of life—questions about family, society, governance, economy—all must be answered through the lens of Islamic teachings. Introducing secular ideas (Secular Ideas) into Muslim societies creates confusion and disorientation.

When Muslims try to adopt the secular system, it weakens their religious identity. Secularism is a dangerous path that leads people away from divine guidanc

Sources of Knowledge

The answer to this lies in understanding that no system can succeed unless it considers divine guidance. Human knowledge is limited and relative. Scientific facts change with time. What was considered truth yesterday may be proven wrong today. Therefore, we must recognize the value of divine knowledge (Ilm-e-Wahi) which is flawless and permanent, while human knowledge is temporary and evolving.
