Rooftop Renegades: A Dystopian Rebel's Tale of Freedom
Chapter One: Smoke and Static

Kael spotted the smoke before she heard the sirens. On the edge of a derelict rooftop, the light from the setting sun bathed the city in molten gold. But on the eastern sector, near the Wastelands, a column of black smoke rose like a fist in the sky.
“I thought the Blades were extinct,” she whispered.
“They were,” said a voice behind her.
Kael turned, and there she was—Rika, half her face bruised, a cigarette hanging from her lips like a defiance to the world itself. She didn’t smile. Rika never did.
“You’re Kael. The Skylark,” she said.
Kael narrowed her eyes. “Depends who’s asking.”
“Someone who’s tired of watching this city eat its children.”
And just like that, the story began.
