Memoir | Special Agent Mia | Part VI of VI

From a young age, I was enthralled by the exhilarating exploits of special agents in movies like James Bond, Mission Impossible, and Salt. Naturally, I found myself daydreaming about stepping into the shoes of a special agent myself. Little did I know that fate would grant me the opportunity to live out this fantasy, though in an unofficial capacity.

As I embarked on another new chapter as an office secretary, memories of my esteemed mentor, Mrs. Jean, flooded my mind. She had instructed me to master the art of scheduling, a skill that would prove invaluable at the ambassadorial level. Mrs. Jean’s guidance prepared me well for the challenges that lay ahead.

Through hard work and dedication, I was promoted to work for a higher-ranking official. This official was later nominated to be an ambassador and was appointed to work in Europe. She asked me to be her office manager and scheduler during her time abroad. With the burden of student loan debt weighing on me, I eagerly accepted the offer.

After the ambassador was sworn in, she requested my presence on her flight to Europe. This presented a unique opportunity for us to arrive together and hit the ground running in arranging her meetings with foreign dignitaries. I saw it as a chance to prove my worth and showcase my abilities.

My sisters kindly drove me to Dulles International Airport, where I was to meet the ambassador for our flight to Europe. A surge of excitement coursed through me as I realized I was about to serve the United States of America’s government in an overseas capacity. It was a momentous occasion, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride.

Furthermore, as I contemplated accompanying an ambassador, I couldn’t help but draw parallels to being a Secret Service agent. In my mind, I had become Special Agent Mia Z, ready to protect the ambassador!

Upon entering the business class lounge, I spotted the ambassador. We engaged in conversation, eagerly awaiting our boarding call for the flight to Europe and onward to our European destination.

I had no clue that this adventure would soon put my newly imagined role as a special agent to the test!

As we settled into our seats in the business class section on the airplane, I couldn’t help but wonder if anyone recognized the ambassador. Suddenly, my question was answered when a woman approached us, vehemently expressing her disagreement with the ambassador’s well-known stance on gun control.

At that moment, the ambassador’s identity was laid bare!

Without hesitation, I sprang into action, firmly instructing the woman to step back. Adrenaline surged through my veins as I fully embraced my role as a special agent, determined to protect the ambassador at all costs.

The woman continued to shout and cause a scene.

In a split second, I swiftly pushed the woman, causing her to stumble and collide with another passenger. A male flight attendant promptly intervened, escorting the enraged woman away from our business class area. As I resumed my seat, I checked on the ambassador to ensure her safety.

To my surprise, the ambassador chuckled and remarked,

“Mia, I can’t believe you pushed that woman.”

At that moment, I leaned in and whispered,

“Don’t worry, I am your Special Agent Mia Z.”

Her smile and the reassuring squeeze of my hand affirmed that I had fulfilled my duty as her trusted companion.

Sometimes, dreams do come true, even when they blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
