- Episode-1
- This morning was going to change the lives of many unknown people.
On one side were the inhabitants of Khan House, who were still reeling from the death of their child,
while
on the other side were the inhabitants of Khush Bakht's house, who were waiting for the decision of the jirga (tribal council) today.
The proceedings of the jirga had started at 9 am.
Arguments were presented from both sides, but the arguments presented by Delawar Khan's side were stronger, and they overshadowed all the arguments presented by Khush Bakht's side. So, it seemed that another decision had ended in favor of Vani (a custom where a girl is given in marriage to settle a dispute). Khush Bakht was given an hour to bring her daughter to the jirga, while Delawar Khan ordered one of his servants to bring Aktham (perhaps the groom or a relevant person).
"For God's sake, Bukht, find another way... My child is so innocent, she doesn't even know the world. You know I've stopped her from going to school after fifth grade. I've protected her innocence for so many years, and those people will ruin her. Let's run away from here."
Mariam's eyes were filled with tears. "Understand our helplessness, Ammi. They want revenge. According to the jirga's decision, either we have to give Khan Sahib ten crore rupees or marry Banum to Delawar Khan's second son."
Khush Bakht's eyes also welled up with tears. How could he bear to part with his child, who made his entire day's fatigue disappear just by looking at her?
"Bukht, assure them that you didn't intentionally shoot their son. You were chasing a thief and fired shots, and unfortunately, their son was passing by and got hit," Mariam repeated what she had been saying for the past two days since she heard about the jirga.
"Mariam, even if everyone believes us, their son is still dead. They're not willing to forgive. I've offered my life, but they don't want it," Bukht's tears broke all bounds of restraint.
Haanim, who had come home from her neighbor's house with a smile, looked at her parents with confusion.
"Abba Jan... what's wrong? Are you crying? And Ammi is crying too... did you two have a fight?"
Her words made Mariam's crying intensify. Haanim, according to her understanding, moved forward and hugged Mariam.
"Ammi, stop crying. Abba is being mean. I'll ask him. You just calm down." With her small, white, and pink hands, she started wiping away Mariam's tears. Bukht kissed her forehead and, with tearful eyes, held her hands and spoke.
"If possible, forgive your Abba."
"My Ammi should forgive Abba because she's crying because of you," Haanim said, and Mariam squeezed her tightly.
"Banum, come out with a big chadar."
After a while, Khush Bakht's voice echoed in the room.
"Abba, first promise you won't fight with Ammi, then I'll bring the chadar."
"Okay, my child, I won't fight. Now, bring the chadar. We have somewhere to go."
"Mariam's tears wouldn't stop. The anxiety was increasing.
Banum went inside and came out with a large chadar.
"Banum, wear this and come with me," Khush Bakht said, heading outside.
Meanwhile, Mariam held Banum's hand. "Never doubt your parents, Banum. Where you're going, you'll have to stay there. May Allah be with you."
Mariam said this and kissed Banum's forehead. Banum's mind was blank, unable to understand what was happening.
Haha I'm went with her father, leaving behind the happiness of the Bukht family, which might never return.
Khush Bakht's family consisted of four members: Khush Bakht, his wife Maryam, their 12-year-old daughter Haanim, and their 7-year-old daughter Riaah, who was currently at her grandmother's house in another village.
Ak yitham had arrived at the jirga (tribal council) upon Delawar Khan's summons. However, upon learning the council's decision, he bit his lip, trying to suppress his inner outrage, as he couldn't publicly disagree with his father's decision.
When Khush Bakht brought Haanim to the jirga, everyone present couldn't help but notice her. Only Aktham Khan didn't bother to look at her. Haanim's fair complexion with a prominent pink glow, blue eyes, long curved eyelashes, small nose, rosy cheeks, sharp features, and small pink lips captivated everyone's attention. She was a 12-year-old girl exuding innocence.
"Maulvi sahib, perform the nikah (marriage ceremony)," Delawar Khan said in a loud voice.
Banam Bakht, son of Khushbakht, your marriage is fixed with Aksam Khan, son of Dilawar Khan, ten thousand rupees coin in the current time. Do you accept this marriage?"
Han am did not answer the words of the cleric. She was looking at a goat standing a little distance away near the jirga.
"Father, let me play with this goat. Look how cute it is."
Banam held her father's hand and said.At this, the jirga members looked at Khushbakht with questioning eyes, while Aksam just glanced at Banam.
"Yes, let's play. First, when this cha says something, you have to say yes. "
At Khushbakht's words, Hanum's blue eyes sparkled with joy. And she shook her head vigorously in affirmation.
When the Maulvi repeated the words of marriage again, Hanum said yes. Three times the Maulvi accepted Hanum's acceptance.
Now the Maulvi turned to the seventeen-year-old Aksham, who was searching for something on earth.
Kasham Khan, son of Dilawar Khan, has been married to Hanum Bakht, son of Khushbakht, for ten thousand rupees, the current rate of rupees. Do you accept this marriage?"
Akam glanced at Dilawar Khan, who was looking at Aksham's face with hope.
"Accepted."
Taking a deep breath, he said, "Accepted."
After saying "Accepted" three times, the Maulvi presented the marriage certificate to Hanum and put his thumb in place of his signature. While Aksham had signed his name........
