The process of upgrading your Ledger device to the latest firmware can be met with many difficulties. Some of the most common issues are;

To fix this

Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:

  • 1. Ledger Live Windows 10/11
  • 2. Ledger Live MAC OS
  • 3. Ledger Live Android Mobile

The Ledger device freezes on the bootloader screen.

The Ledger device freezes during an update.

The Ledger device freezes with MCU firmware, and there is no genuine error message displayed.

The Ledger device freezes on the Installing OS Updater page.

These issues are sometimes caused by an overload in the Ledger server or a mismatch of firmware in the Ledger device.

Fortunately, solving these issues can be quite simple, and here’s a guide on how to solve Ledger firmware update issues:

Be patient and wait for 10–15 minutes for the bootloader to finish loading, if it doesn’t load up, unplug your Ledger device and replug it.

Keep doing this until the issue is resolved, at times, it takes quite some trials before the issue is resolved.

Update device drivers:

Check your device drivers, and ensure that your computer is running the latest drivers required to enable a USB connection with the Ledger device.

Swap USB ports:

Firmware update issues can sometimes be resolved by simply swapping your USB cable to another port.

Close all third-party applications:

Third-party applications running in the background can affect an ongoing firmware update; therefore, it is advisable to close all third-party applications and retry the update.

When met with the “MCU firmware is not a genuine error,” users can simply unplug the Ledger device with the left button pressed down and plug it back into the computer.

Once plugged in, simply restart the Ledger application, and the error should be cleared.

While this solution works for certain Ledger devices, it does not work for Ledger wallets with older firmware versions.

Therefore, users with older firmware installed, should click on the two buttons on the Ledger device and scroll through the menu that appears on the Ledger device.

After scrolling, click on reset Ledger device, and proceed to initiate the firmware update again.

To solve the issue of your Ledger device getting stuck on the Installing OS Updater page, simply unplug the Ledger device and close the Ledger application.

After a few minutes, open the Ledger application and retry the firmware update. However, this solution should only be employed if the loading screen keeps spinning on the Installing OS Updater page.

If the firmware update issues persist after trying all the solutions listed in this piece, users can proceed to contact Ledger support to fix the issue.

Note: Ensure that a copy of your Ledger recovery phrase is readily available, as you will need it after resetting your Ledger device.
