Doubt

Doubt… a feeling that can break even the strongest walls of love and trust. It spreads like poison in the human heart and hollows out every relationship. This story is also about such a doubt, which changed the world of two close friends.

Raj and Vikas were born in the same village. Both were close friends since childhood, incomplete without each other. From school to college, both were together at every step. Their friendship was an example in the village.

Raj's father was a simple farmer, while Vikas's father was the biggest landlord of the village. Despite the economic difference, there was no wall between them.

Time passed, both made their name in the city with their hard work. Raj became a reputed businessman and Vikas entered politics. But as they progressed, the distance between them started increasing.

Vikas felt that Raj no longer considered him a friend like before, because he was busy. At the same time, Raj suspected that Vikas was now ignoring him due to his new political connections.

When Vikas heard for the first time from the people of the village that Raj was using his name to reach great heights in his business, he thought it was a joke. But when one person after another repeated the same thing, the first seed of doubt sprouted in his mind.

One day when he was sitting with some of his old friends, one person said softly,

Vikas bhai, we considered you very intelligent. We did not expect that someone would fire a gun by placing it on your shoulder.

Vikas's forehead wrinkled. He asked,

What do you mean?

That person said smilingly,

Oh, is it necessary to tell this now? Raj expanded his business by using your identity and relations, but did not even take your name. Do you think he is your true friend?

Vikas did not say anything at that time, but his mind was agitated. He thought, can this be true? Did Raj really use him?

He immediately assigned some of his special people to find out how fast Raj's property and his business had grown.

A few days later, the report came—

Raj had earned crores of rupees in the last two years, he had started meeting big leaders and officers.

Vikas was shocked to hear this. His closest friend had taken such a big leap, and he never even told Vikas?

Now doubt had completely taken root in his mind.

The doubt burning inside Vikas had now taken the form of anger. He decided to meet Raj without delay.

Raj was sitting in his office and looking at some important documents when suddenly the door opened loudly and Vikas came in. There was anger in his eyes and a shadow of distrust on his face.

Raj was shocked. He said laughingly,

Hey brother! Suddenly without telling?

But Vikas's eyes did not have that old friendship sparkle. He looked straight into Raj's eyes and said in a stern voice—

Tell me clearly, did you expand your business with my help or not?

Raj was shocked to hear this. He got up from his chair and said,

What are you saying, Vikas? We have earned everything with our hard work. Are you doubting me?

Vikas angrily threw a paper in front of Raj.

Look here, the list of your properties, your new connections, everything! And you never told me anything!

Anger appeared in Raj's eyes. He picked up the paper and threw it aside and said in a serious voice—

If you are so bothered by my success, what can I say? I have never hidden anything from you, but if you don't trust me now, then this friendship is meaningless!

Vikas took a step forward in anger.

That means you admit that you used my name!

Raj was now completely angry. He replied straight away,

No, I believe you trusted rumours more than your friendship!

Both of them were so loud that even the office staff were startled. But now the thread of friendship was broken.

Vikas walked out without saying anything else, clenching his fists. And at that very moment… the friendship ended.

Time passed. Now neither Raj and Vikas were friends nor a part of each other’s life.

Vikas tried to move forward in his political career, but he was left alone. The people he trusted slowly left him.

On the other hand, Raj’s business also started declining slowly. He realized that his biggest support, his best friend, was no longer in his life.

One day Vikas got a news—Raj is ill.

In a few days, the news came that Raj is admitted in the hospital and his condition is critical.

Something broke inside Vikas. He immediately reached the hospital.

Raj was lying on the bed, weak and quiet. As soon as he saw Vikas, his eyes lit up, but there was only one sentence on his lips—

There is nothing more terrible than doubt… it took away our most precious thing.

Tears welled up in Vikas' eyes. He held Raj's hand and said,

Forgive me, friend… I lost you.

But there is no atonement for some mistakes… because once trust is broken, it is not easy to repair it.

Doubt is a slow poison, which kills relationships from within. If Vikas and Raj had talked openly, their friendship could have been saved.

Communication is important in relationships. Doubt must be eradicated before it grows, otherwise it swallows up trust.
